Okay, Fruits Basket just won the award for being best manga, right? Ah...such a good series. I love it! However, what do I have to say about the whole 2nd-season-of-the-anime thing? I say, "NOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Before fans go berserk, let me explain my reasons.

The anime was good. Not as great as the manga, but still good. There's just one thing that bothered me....the changes they made to characters to fit the anime's plot! First off: Shigure. In the anime he's this funny, perverted, uncleistic ( not a word; like an uncle) guy. He's goofy and really fun. However, the anime left out one thing that makes up his personality. That is his sinister side. In the manga, we get to see this side of him and it even plays a role in how Tohru sees the curse later on. He's not as goofy as you think once you see this side of him. Truth is, I think his sinister side is his true nature. The anime left it out, and if they create a second season with this side of him in it, it wouldn't be the same. Seeing him this way after the first season wouldn't be the same.

The second thing that got on my nerves was the physical changes the anime made. Originally, Tohru's eyes are brown, but the anime changed them to Blue-ish, green-ish! Why they did this is still a mystery to me. It really got to me! Kyo's braclett, yes, the one that seals the monster inside him, is originally supposed to be red and grey (or white). The anime made them black and white. Kyo gives an explanation as to why they're red in volume 11 of the manga, but how can they do this in a second season of Fruits Basket? You would think that for the second season, they would have the characters looking exactly as they did in the first one, right? Argh!

They ruined any genuine chances of continuing when the last scene of the first season was created! Tohru goes to talk to Akito and Akito goes crazy and yells at her, hurts her, but Shigure and Yuki were there trying to restrain Akito. This stuff wasn't supposed to happen until volume 21 or 22 of the manga. It didn't happen that way either. She was supposed to be alone with Akito, Akito was supposed to have a dagger, and Tohru was supposed to get hurt from falling!

Doesn't it bother anybody that Kazuma went to Akito before he went to Shigure's house in episode 24? The manga probably never had that happen. From Kazuma and Akito's conversation, it sounded like the two were in the "Kyo's-monster-form-being-revealed" plot together. Now...we all know Kazuma would never do that. Not with Akito anyway! He's against Akito.

The story of Tohru and the red hat boy was left out of the anime as well. I;m sure they could easily add this to the second season if it was created. However...would they ever get to the point when the boy's identity was revealed and still call for a climax? If you estimate how long a season is for manga, turned into anime, it's a total of 6-7 volumes, for a 24-26 episode season. Nowadays, 26 episodes is the usual length of a series or season. Fruits Basket first season is composed of manga lengths of volumes1-7 (if you don't count the manga chapters that weren't animated in those volumes). If that's so, what will a second season be composed of? Volumes 9-15 (or 16). That's only 2/3 of the whole story. There's nothing really big in either volumes 15 or 16, so what would they do for a climax of the second season?

They have three options of getting the story to it's real ending, in anime format.  The first one is to skip a lot of important details and manga chapters to ge to the real ending, fitting 15 manga volumes into 26 episodes (that's rushing big time). The second thing would be to have a second season, and then a third season, putting in everything. The third option would be to recreate the whole thing. Recreate the first season and just continue it, like Naruto and Bleach, until it reaches the true ending.

Y'know...I did wish that a second season would be made, but once I considered all these options, I thought that it woud be fine to just leave it as it is. Leave the manga alone!
