Chapter 1
Death Overwhelming

The wind was calm that day, as of most days. But yet, it held sorrow, pain, and misery. His father a mortal, his mother a kind, caring, generous demon. He had a sister, a full mortal, but who loved him as her own brother nonetheless. However, death had overwhelmed him. His father died while trying to protect his mother who was being attacked by demon slayers. His mother died while giving birth to him, while being attacked by the slayers. He grew up under his sister’s care. She was nice. Yes, but strict and firm. She worried and cared, just like her mother and step-mother had done with her. So now… the story begins.
“Hiroki, time to come in and eat” his older sister Yumi said from the doorway. Hiroki, who was sitting all alone by the stream that flowed by the house, got up and walked to his sister “Yes sister…” he said, politely bowing to his sister before walking into the small hut they called home. They had little money but they got by. “Hiroki… you are old enough to take care of yourself now… I will keep you in my care though, until next week… on your birthday.” Yumi says while putting the food onto homemade plates. “But…! I’ll only be turning 16! I don’t… ow! I’m sorry Yumi, but I don’t think you should have hit me on the head with that spoon… but anyway… I don’t think I’m old enough to be on my own yet!” Hiroki says rubbing the top of his head. “16 isn’t old enough? That’s complete and utter rubbish! Do you hear me! RUBBISH! When father and your mother died I was only 10 years old and I had to take care of myself along with you, a screaming annoying little half demon baby!” Yumi yells, anger streaming through her voice. Hiroki looks at Yumi shocked “I… I’m sorry Yumi… I didn’t mean to upset you…” he says. “I’m not hungry anymore… eat what you want Hiro…” Yumi says while walking out the door. Hiroki, feeling guilty of making his sister mad, followed her. When he got outside, she was crouching by the stream, tears rolling off her face into the water. Hiroki begins to walk over to her but then he sees an arrow that had come out of nowhere and it hit Yumi, killing her. “YUMI!” Hiroki yells while running over to her bloody body “Yumi, Yumi, talk to me! No… you can’t die… Y-Yumi…” Hiroki cries as tears crazily falling all over her body “No…”he whispers.
