This is an article I've been wanting to do for a long time and now it is finally here.It's goal is to prove to the world that Bulgarian artists are the best.Here are the four Masters of the Bulgarian comix.

First of let me introduce Svetlin Velinov.He was born in 1979 in the biggest coastal town in Bulgaria-Varna.He studied fine arts in the local art high schools and after that graduated animation at the New Bulgarian University in Sofia-the capitol of Bulgaria.He has been a professional since 2000 as a freelancer.In 2004 he started a comic series called Winddance which isn't complete.He has been working on the environment concept art for Death Jr.2 for PSP.His last project lasted more than 4 months for a Nintendo DS based game.He is to start working on Warhammer 40K and he is currently negotiating with Marvel and Top Cow.One of his best works are Bone Killer,Master and Servant and of course the award wining Red Moon and Soul Dancer.You can check them all out on the following links.He has posted his portfolio in DeviantArt - http://velinov.deviantart.com/

Next of is the youngest of the Masters-Georgi Banderov.He is 23 years old.Born in a small town called-Asenovgrad and studied sculpture in a high school in Plovdiv-one of the biggest Bulgarian towns.He has published a comic but mostly he does illustrations for other comics and also concept art.He hasn't posted nearly anything on the Internet but I have managed to find some links.By the way have in mind that he is colour blind.

Now lets move on to my personal favourite-Daniel Atanasov a.k.a. Satanasov.Born October the 25th in 1979.He studied drawing in high school in Yambol from 1993 to 1998. After that he enrolled at the University of Veliko Turnovo specializing in Illustration under the guidance of Prof. Rumen Skorchev.He graduated in 2002.Some say he is the best Bulgarian manga artist others say that manga can be drawn only by Korean and Japanese.Nevertheless his works BION, BONZAI, SHAMAN got awarded in the Manga Devision - “Recommended from the Jury” section at the 8th JAPAN MEDIA ARTS FESTIVAL.His works were selected amongst over 1498 works from 43 countries.He is the only foreigner awarded in this category.“Bonzai" also won the Open Children’s Manga/ Storyboard prize at the International Manga & Anime Festival (IMAF) - IMAF Winners 2005.Now he works at the newly created branch of UbiSoft in Bulgaria along with 39 other 2D,3D artists,designers and programmers but their project still remains a secret.By the way his son's name is Yantar-named after a character from a Bulgarian comic magazine "Duga"(Rainbow).Website - http://satanasov.com/

And finally the Grand Master of comix-Evgeni Yordanov.He was born in Vratza, Bulgaria in 1956. He studied at the Academy of Art, where he graduated in 1983, creating a scandal because his graduation project was a comic, which was highly unusual in communist Bulgaria. He became a freelance comic artist and has created comics like 'Tomek' and 'Dobromir' for magazine Daga; 'Radul' for magazine Chuden Sviat; 'Noril and Varga' for Razkazi v Kartinki; 'Conan the Barbarian' for Super Pleada Comics; 'The Tooth of Buda' for Mag and 'Eak the Destroyer' for Riko.Now he is working along with Alex Sultanov on the best Bulgarian comic book ever created-in my opinion it is the best in the world.Since I have permission from Alex himself I get to publish 2 pages of the comic and you will see what I mean.I am sorry that the scans aren't good though.

P.S.Did I mention that none of them uses refs.?Unlike Alex Ross or Alex Maleev(another Bulgarian artist that I don't like exactly because he uses photos).
