Gena had spent the last two days recuperating from her injuries and most of the bandages had now been removed. As she looked at her self in the mirror, she found it remarkable that most of the scratches and cuts were no completely gone with out scare. She lifted her arm upward showing the inner portion near her right underarm and for the first time noticed the mark she had never seen before.
She pushed closer to the mirror and touched the mark using her finger to trace the pattern on it. The mark looked more like a tattoo and it was in the form of some type of symbol that she had never seen before. She cocked her head to take a closer look when she felt a tingling sensation in the back of her eyes. She turned around and Kara was standing watching her at the mirror.
“I see you have noticed the mark.” Kara said with a gentle expression on her face. “I think you are well enough now that we can explain to you exactly what is happening.”
Gena stared at Kara and felt a little confused at what was going on. She gave a brief smile and walked over to the bed and picked up a shirt that had been left out for her earlier that morning. She slid the shirt over her head and turned to where Kara was still standing and said. “I can remember bits and pieces of what happened to me, but there are large gaps between memories. Can you help me remember?”
“No I don’t think so, but we can help you understand.” Kara said. “It is important that you understand what exactly is happening, because I am afraid it will be something that you will have to be with the rest of your life.”
“I want to know what happened to me.” Gena asked hesitantly. “There is something wrong with me isn’t there?”
“No. Nothing is wrong with you.” Kara said with a loving smile. “Why don’t you come with me and I will take you to somebody that can explain what is going on in more detail then I could ever do.”
Gena took a big breath and let it out as she followed Kara out the door. She really hadn’t been outside the house since she came back, and this was the first time she realized that she didn’t know much about where she was. The people were nice and they always seemed straight forward and honest with her. She wondered why everything seemed so secretive and why Kara’s voice seemed to have so much finality to it.
She stepped out of the house and in to the open air. The sun was out and the grounds around the house were filled with flowers and gardens. There was a stone paved walk way that led from the house and seemed to curve in and out of garden paths. It was like a maze and Gena wasn’t sure she could find her way out or back to the house with out Kara guiding her.
