Exactly nine months ago today, a clan was formed on TokyoPop, existing solely as a support and review network for authors.  The clanlord figured that maybe she would have ten members, tops.  In the first week, she got seven members, three of which were gods of fiction.  There are now 135 in the clan (and counting!) who have uploaded 663 pieces of fiction (and counting!).  It is one of the few clans which has remained active since its creation.  The clanmembers have had to weather all sorts of changes, from the endless bug fixes to the institution of featured fiction to the unexplained absences of several key writers.  And there’s another, bigger change coming up.

Mostly Literate Clan is leaving TokyoPop.

Well, that’s a bit dramatic I suppose.  The original clan will remain on TokyoPop, and I’m sure members will choose to keep posting their fiction there.  Think of it as moving headquarters.  TokyoPop will no longer be our main base and will instead turn into a branch HQ for a larger organization.  (Makes us sound like we’re spies, doesn’t it?)  The point is, don’t panic.  MLC will still be on TP, and I will do my best to make sure that it continues to run as smoothly as it possibly can.

I know that some of you are probably wondering why we’re leaving.  After all, we’re one of the most successful clans on the site!  The answer: The site has become too difficult to work with.  There are simply too many bugs and not enough of them are being fixed.  It’s becoming impossible to get anything productive done in a short span of time.  Log-out issues, broken links, comments eaten by Robofish…  The point is, we’re fed up.  Take note if you’re reading this, TokyoPop admins; we are fed up, so we’re leaving.

Where are we going?  Well, for now, ZEDr has been kind enough to offer us space on his site.  Scroll all the way down the page, and we’re the subforum at the bottom.  Of course, if you want to join, you have to abide by the rules of the site, but they’re reasonable.  (Unfortunately, MrGBH doesn’t have to wear lederhosen or anything…)  Feel free to register and begin the discussion!

We will get our own site some time in the future, but that might have to wait until summer…  It’s going to be a long process, so I hope that you’ll all be patient and stay with the clan through this.  Oh, and, unfortunately we don’t have enough wagons, so NearlyMello’s going to have to share with Joseph.  Sorry, NM.
