Chapter 2
Fenrir sighed as he sat down on the sandy ground. All around him lay sand, just as motionless as a corpse. It was almost a depressing sight to behold. Two days had they been out here. Vakametru moved up next to him and let out a sigh as well.
“If I am not mistaken, I think we’ve lost a good deal of moral.” He said.
Fenrir groned. Vakametru was right; there was no water left and no food at the moment. Even though they couldn’t use magic to produce water, food was much worse than fluid.
Vakametru patted Fenrir on the back and pulled him up. “Let’s just go back and look somewhere else,” He said.
Lguan, who was looking out into the desert with Venesse and Nero, turned his head back towards Fenrir and shrugged.
Fenrir turned his head away. “If you want to turn back, then go ahead,” He walked away into the desert, but stopped and turned back, “But you won’t get your bounties if you turn back!” Fenrir then broke into a run into the desert, letting out a laugh as he went on.
Vakametru chuckled as he turned himself towards the remaining three. “Damn us if we came the way for nothing, and darn us if we go on,” He said, “What do you think we should do?”
Lguan shrugged. “All I know is that I’ve wanted to stay at Fenrir’s side until the end. So…” Without finishing his sentence, he darted off towards Fenrir. Behind him, Venesse followed.
Vakametru glanced at Nero. “What are we going to do?” He asked his partner.
Nero shrugged. Without warning, he, too, ran off into the desert.
Vakametru sighed. “They got spirit,” He muttered, “Thank God they’re still up for it.” With that remark, he ran off into the desert.
“I now regret following you out here, Fenrir,” Vakametru muttered in a depression, “Just kill me now. Please…”
Fenrir turned back. “Stop your whining and get on your feet,” He muttered.
“He is sort of right, Fenrir,” Lguan said in a dry voice, “I think we should turn back.”
Venesse nodded. “I really don’t think I’m going to make it…” She said in a desperate tone.
Fenrir sighed. He glanced at Nero, who nodded in agreement to everyone else.
Fenrir sighed and took a step forward. As his foot hit the sand, he heard a small “beep”. He lifted his eyebrow, not sure if he had heard the sound.
As Fenrir began to move again, he soon fell to his feet as a large pole shot up out of the sound.
Everyone around him sprung upward, keeping their eyes on the object. Fenrir glanced up and saw the large pole had a cone-shaped top to it. A small red light was the only other color besides black on the pole. He pulled himself up and looked at the pole.
Fenrir tapped it and looked into the head of it. The small red light started to blink. Then, a muffled voice came from the cone: “BEYOND THIS MARK IS THE CAEMEO CAPITAL, KALEET. PLEASE WAIT HERE FOR ASSITANCE. ANY STEPS TAKEN PAST THIS POINT WILL BE TAKEN AS A CRIME! AGAIN, PLEASE WAIT HERE FOR ASSITANCE!” With that, the pole shot back into the ground.
Lguan scratched his head. “It said ‘assistance’, Fenrir. Could they be sending soldiers?” Lguan asked.
Before Fenrir could respond, Vakametru spoke up. “I bet they will. I am going crazy right now and need a drink desperately!” He started to breathe heavily and let out sighs between breaths.
“Cant you just use magic to refresh yourself?” Venesse asked.
Nero nodded in disagreement. “Magic can only be used with concentration. Right now, we are only concentrated on refreshing ourselves, we cannot focus on fighting or casting spells.” He looked up to Fenrir and Lguan, “That is correct, right?”
Fenrir and Lguan simultaneously nodded. “You better ask him for help, Venesse,” Lguan stated, “Because Nero seems to describe it better than we would.”
Fenrir chuckled. He opened his mouth to speak, but stopped. At that moment, he felt something passed by his back. He looked around and saw the same thing in every direction. It was odd.
Then Lguan shook. “Was that a breeze?” He asked.
Vakametru titled his head. “You’re kidding, right?” He retorted.
“I felt it too…” Fenrir replied, “And I think something else is here.”
Suddenly, a swift as an assassin in the night, Fenrir felt a hit to the back of the head. He fell to the sandy ground and lost consciousness.
