Valescar III - Chapter 3

Chapter 3

          “Fenrir…”

          Fenrir groaned.

          “Wake up, brother…”

Fenrir opened his eyes. He was laying in the dark on a hard floor. He could see his hands spread out next to him. He moved them and found that he was alive.

          “Brother, get to your feet.”

Fenrir had heard it. The word “brother” had caused him to pull himself up. He glanced around; nothing but the blackness. As he stood up, his body felt odd. He stopped and pondered for a moment. His body did not feel normal, but he seemed conscious. Perhaps he was dreaming.

          “Turn around, Fenrir.”

It was the voice again. It sounded familiar. It was somewhat muffled and almost dubbed with another, more demonic, tone.

Fenrir did as he was told and turned around and was almost standing directly in front of a cloud of a purple-like gas. Fenrir took a step back and examined it. It just seemed to hover in place.

Suddenly, parts of the gas started to shoot out in several directions. Long, pillar-like sections lunged out at Fenrir with incredible speed. Fenrir barely dodged it coming towards him, but did not fare as well as it turned around. It looped around and quickly gripped him tight. It then started to slowly bind itself around Fenrir.

As he struggled to break free, and the purple gas exploded in front of Fenrir. As the smoke cleared, a person stood in the spot where the gas formerly was. The person was male. Fenrir guessed he was shorter than him. He wore light grey leather armor and a black cloak around his neck. His face was concealed by a hood.

“Fenrir…” the man muttered, voice now less muffled, “Dear brother… How long has it been?”

Fenrir did not respond. He only struggled to get out of the dark substance and break free from this nightmare.

The man chuckled, “Don’t try and break free,” He said as his voice became clearer, “Just rest and talk to me.” He started to walk towards Fenrir.

“Why do you call me brother?” Fenrir roared, “Let me go!”

The man laughed. “Only because it’s true.” He then let out a sigh. “It upsets me that you don’t even recognize your own brother’s voice…”

Fenrir stopped. His voice was becoming clearer. It sounded much like his voice. Could it be? Fenrir tried to form the name with his mouth, but his voice was lost in shock; the thought of him being alive was unimaginable.

The man laughed. “Surprised?” He asked with a menacing chuckle, “I guess you’d never expect to see me again, now would you?”

          “B-b-but how did you-”

“Shut up Fenrir,” The man said threateningly, “What you did to me was unforgivable! That is why you’re here now: In this

Hell of a nightmare!” He moved his hooded head towards Fenrir; he was so close that Fenrir felt his hot, burning breath on his face. The man reached up and pulled down his hood, revealing his face. It was a pale, scarred face with several sword marks. A large, black burn mark came down from the top of his right eye and down across his face, ending on the right of his charred lips. “Because of you, I look like this!”

Fenrir was speechless. “I… but… how are you still alive?” He asked.

The man moved back. “That is of no concern now. Nor am I going to explain anything to you. All I will tell is this: I am still alive. When you return to reality, I will be looking for you. Don’t even bother looking for the Valescar; it is far from where you are now. Your enemies are far away from it now, but close to you!

“Know that you should keep your guard up  as of this moment. The Valescar has become more popular within the northern part of Firmistek, and if you underestimate any of it, you will die…”

Fenrir looked at him blankly. “Why are you telling me all of this?” He asked, confused and scared.

“Why?” His foe asked, “I’m telling you this so I can kill you…” The man smiled with his charred lips and snapped his fingers. The next moment, Fenrir felt all the pressure drift away and he instantly fell into a sleep.
