Poll: Is it art theft if you post someone else's creation and claim it as your own?
If you do not have the original artist's permission, do you feel it's okay to post someone else's artwork and claim you created it or imply you created it by not crediting the true artist?

You're right, the question you proposed is more thought provoking, but from what I've seen in the short time I've been here at TP, it seems that a good 50% of all the images posted here at TP (between the art and photo sections) are not posted by their original creators. Due to the shear volume, frequency and apparent apathy toward this bizzare phenomenon it would appear that the culprits either: A. Don't have a problem with "stealing" another's artwork or B. They don't think of what they're doing as "stealing". Having been the victim of art theft, I'm curious to find out the community's (culprits included) thought process behind this disturbing trend, whichever way it plays out.

Well, duh. Why not try a harder question, like: "Is it art theft if you post someone else's creation-- and credit them"? THAT might actually inspire some debate. After all, it's not like you're pretending YOU made the art, you're crediting the artist. But they still own the copyright to the image, and posting it without their permission is a violation of that copyright. :)
