She fell for a while, crying. She had stopped screaming Miff’s name; she still thought about how mean she had been to him. How much she had hurt him. She squeezed her eyes shut, but the feeling didn’t fade. It got stronger when she realized that when she closed her eyes, it just got darker than it already was. She felt the presence of the fall lighten, and she knew she was going to hit the ground, or whatever was under the hole. She glued her arms to her sides and scrunched her knees under herself. She prepared to feel hard ground and shattering pain but instead she felt soft netting. It caught her and got tangled into her skirt. She opened her eyes; nothing but green net and beyond the green net was more darkness. She couldn’t even see the light from the place where she fell. She intertwined her fingers in the net, looking out, her eyes adjusting to the darkness. “Hello?” She squeaked. “Is anybody there?” Her voice echoed and came back to her. So there was a wall on the other side. She called again, judging how far the wall was. Five steps away. She shook the net but it didn’t rip. She dug her fingernails into the rope but it didn’t even rip. She dwelled on her other options. She bared her teeth and bit the rope, chewing at the string. It came apart in her mouth and got stuck in her teeth. She spit out the string, examining her work. The netting had torn a little, but not enough for her to break through it. She felt warm tears brew in her eyes and they spilled over. She would be stuck here forever. You yelped into the darkness and heard someone whisper,” Shh…I’ll get you out of here.”
