Part VII: The Chase
You must understand that dwarves are not heroes, and the brothers were not warriors, nor knights. But something had stirred in their hearts, something strong and angry. A lone feeling had passed through them, and they knew that justice must be made. Most where armed with their mining tools, mostly hammers or axes that they had made themselves. The hag they presumed was evil, but slow, and the stags agreed to be their steeds. And thus the chase began.
Rouge mumbled curse after curse as she ran down the mountain’s path, about to enter the waterfall passageway. Her transformation spell was slowly fading, and her limbs began to become quicker, her eyes and ears more keen, as she felt her magic returning to her. Once she crossed the bridge across the waterfall, she planned to burn it down, so the dwarves could not cross. As she neared the bridge eagerly, her ears caught the sound of hooves and the angry shouts of the dwarves. She ran to the rickety bridge, and began to slowly cross it. The dwarves, meanwhile, were gaining on her, and the few with no weapons, like Dopim, began to throw stones, but did not reach their mark. As Rouge’s body began to change back to normal, she had almost reached the other side of the bridge when several things happened-
Exactly when Rouge began to set the bridge on fire, the third stag had valiantly jumped over her head to the other side of the bridge, blocking her way. The other two cornered her up, and the dwarves shook their weapons aggressively at her, and Sney even threw his, gazing her shoulder.
The bridge was old, and had been there as long as the dwarves could remember, and it was made of wood and rope, so, naturally, the commotion caused the bridge to shake. Rouge was helpless, the bridge was covered in smoke, and the stags quickly turned around back to safety, by which time Rouge had completely changed back to herself again, but not before she had lost her footing, and was pushed off the bridge, and went down with the roaring waterfall, followed by the bridge.
Only the dwarves and animals could hear her dying cries.
Then, nothing more.
Silence.
