Cosplay and Goth Loli Photo Contest

Thanks to everyone who entered our cosplay and goth loli contest. With so many great submissions we had a tough time picking the winners but here they are!

Goth Loli Category Winners

Grand prize winner.

This outfit embodies all the things we to see.  Prop construction, good choice of fabrics, and attention to the smallest details.  The accessories alone are amazing and really speak to the amount of work that went into this costume.  It's clear the creator of this outfit had to draw on a lot of different techniques in order to bring the whole costume together!

1st runner up

This is a classic lolita...look at that adorable smile!  This lolita embodies everything that the genre stands for...a happy, cute lolita in a fun and fanciful outfit.  I love the chosen colors and the hat.  The ribbon and bow combo on the sleeves are also a nice touch!"

2nd runner up

It's funny when we hear American lolita fans constantly debating what is or is not lolita.  In Harajuku a few years ago, we see tons of Japanese lolitas walking around in outfits that most American lolitas might possibly condemn as not being "true lolita." But the Japanese fans didn't care if they fit the lolita mold or not...they were just having fun, being creative, and pushing the boundaries of the genre.  That's what we see this lolita doing...getting creative.  Her style is fun, fancy and definitely her own.  It's refreshing to see someone who isn't afraid to step outside the mold and do something really unique!

1st runner up.

Most photogenic:
This pair have made excellent use of clean lines, neat hems, great wig-styling and appropriate makeup techniques to present a very photogenic couple.  The simple, but yet well-crafted silhouette of each costume is something we never get tired of seeing!

2nd runner up

Best Use of Pattern:
Anyone who has tried to make a ball gown knows how deceptively difficult it is, even with a pattern.  Bodice pieces must be fitted just so in order to create straight lines and flat seams, without any rolling or buckling of the fabric. This cosplayer did an excellent job on her dress, and customized the pattern to fit the character very well!

Ew, wtf. This isn't lolita, this is a whale in a metal bra.

This is humiliating. These really can't be the 'best' outfits submitted for the Lolita section. What are all these comments about 'quality' and construction? That's the most hilarious thing I've ever heard. The judges should be ashamed of themselves.

The judges for the "goth loli" section should be ashamed of themselves. Those entries embody NOTHING of the lolita aesthetic. Maybe next time try doing some research before attempting to hold a contest like this.

Okay, wait. It was a Gothic Lolita contest, correct? So how did two Sweet Lolitas win? ...Brain hurt.

Way to fail with the goth loli, two cossplayers and a mess. Glad I no longer pay for your title.
