Lord of the Rings-marathon. (and new year)

It all began from a desire of three friends to organize a gathering that would include watching the entire Lord of the Rings saga. Or actually it was a desire of two friends and this gathering was supposed to be arranged a year ago, but it didn’t succeed. Now, a year later, one of our friends returned to our group after a long time. We had been fighting because of stupid little misunderstandings and now when all of us were together once again; it was time to bring this event back to our new year’s plans.

The 31st. of December, 2006. 17.55 p.m. (GMT +2)
The girls arrive to my place, where everything was supposed to take place. Silja, my best friend, I might say, even if I hate to categorize people and Tiia, the friend long lost. Of course the night was going to be long and a lot of energy would be needed during that time, they brought all kinds of sweet stuff such as candy, chips, lemonade and crackers with them. I myself had also arranged something to eat for us and soon we had a whole living room-table full of good things to eat. We had decided that we would spend the night there, watching all extended versions of the three movies including the “Easter eggs”, hidden goodies that include rare material only added to these DVD’s. I think we all let out a little sigh when I went over to the TV and opened the DVD-player’s hatch. This was it. This was the moment of through.

Lord of the Rings: The fellowship of the ring begins. (Just wait, we are going to prove you wrong, we WILL do this!)

Some comments written in the beginning, no time was included in these reports…
Heli: And here we are, twenty minutes have passed since the first movie started and I have already seen some new material.. (Has never seen the extended cuts before… Shame on me.)
Cool. Gandalf is my idol.. *smiles* Merry and Pippin are going nuts.

Tiia: The extended versions rule! Our new year begins in fast feelings..

Silja: The year 3434, my ass. I bet it wasn’t, but I don’t bother to check.. The black rider didn’t know what a Hobit stinks like.. (“What, I haven’t received any clothing..”)
And what’s with their shoe fashion? These are out of the season. We are already making the line for spring 2009.. And how the heck did Sam know that it takes six days to reach Rivendell? Did he go to a travel agency?

Yeah, I know.. We take notice in the oddest of things.. Let’s go a bit forward.. No need to mention about the story Elrond tells to Gandalf about Isildur’s fall. We all now what happened there..

Time: 19:52 (GMT +2)
The council of Elrond has gathered. The head band, so cool.. And now he clearly has a migraine. He touches he’s forehead. All the gramps on the background perform as the Free peoples of Middle-earth.
20:00 “You shall be the Fellowship of the ring”
“Great. Where are we going?” (He’s so clever this guy..)
Now for the Easter egg, ‘cause the first disc has ended. It’s a parody of the council.. Oh, this would have been better to be left unseen.. “Omg! It’s moving!” *shivers*

20:09 Disc two, movie one. And again Sam knows how far they must travel. (Clearly their travel agency is very good..)
20:11 Bilbo plays Gollum and the dip for the chips is out. Kraah!
Frodo knows what he is doing: “Mordor, Gandal, is it left or right? (Seems that the travel agency forgot something important after all.. Where is the sign: MORDOR. There should be one in every town so people won’t just wander there..

And again we take notice to things that should not be thought of, except, why the Ring changes it’s size all the time, and the chain too, and it’s supposed to be a good chain. I mean, he just pulls a little and it’s on his hand..

20:41 The cave troll sounds like cow, or a fog horn.. Is it drunk?

21:25 It’s getting dangerous. About ten minutes left of the first movie and we are starting to yawn.
And what’s with this hand opening thing? Frodo says he will take the ring to Mordor and still he keeps offering it to others from his palm. And always the opening of the hand is slow and dramatic.
I can’t take this anymore, me wants Gandalf..

Silja says she’ll never watch anything with us again, and is desperately waiting for the music of the second movie along with the Rohan folk..
I am just enjoying the music and voice of Enya and Tiia is laughing her head of and is talking something about grapes. (I have no idea, so please don’t ask..)

Tiia writes a beginning for the second movie: (shortened a lot, sorry!!)
The second part is about to begin. Silja and Heli both ran to the toilet. Then Silja comes back to take pictures of our legendary moment. We are all laughing, but just wait we’ll be snoring in the end –hard.
Second movie starts at 21:51 p.m.
21:56 Frodo finds the bottom of his mind. (Those eyes!! White, terrible eyes… *that was me, not Tiia..*)
And we are going on with a rough speed…

I made this wall-banner, and it says Lordof the rings. I read the text about a zillion times and became to think about why Frodo couldn’t be named Lordof? or Fodrol? Much better, eh? (You don’t think we don’t like this Frodo guy very much, do you?)
22:15 Silja announces that Èowyn has arrived to the picture. (She just adores her..)
22:30 Heli falls in love with Gollum’s eyes..
And of course Tiia came up with a theory why Gandalf’s clothes suddenly turned white on the top of the mountains. Some showgirls came and changed those for him… (I wonder what is going on in her mind..)

23:10 The hour of the new year is approaching.
23:27 Gollum speaks with himself. These are one of the best bits..

At some point the first disc must have ended ‘cause at 23:42 Silja writes about the second Easter egg, if you haven’t seen it, I don’t want to spoil it, but it has something to do with Gollum, it’s hilarious, and we watched it twice.

00:00 The Year 2007!!! Od, this time did not appear on the original version of this document, might be cause we went outside the house to see the rockets and howl towards the moon.. Silja also wished that our beards would grow tall..

00.11 The second disc of the second movie begins.
00:27 Almost a half an hour has passed and I have only received to answers for my happy new year greetings.. And that’s all I got in the end too.. We love the Ents, but there is really nothing interesting going on right now, so I’m writing, Tiia plays with her phone (addict..) While Silja is checking some translations from the book, and later she tells us that the finish translation sucks and she will never read it.

Nothing too important happens…

01:25 Gimli is thrown to the bridge and is now throwing the Orcs.

01:36 Gimli blows to the horn at Helm’s deep and the riders of Rohan appear to the hill with Gandalf. Beautiful.

No brakes, people! The Return of the king starts at 2.00 a.m.
Here is the effect where I thought I had marched into the wrong hall, when I first saw this scene at the movies. Smeagol… And his worm.

In this movie there sure are some great bits that I haven’t seen. I tried to come up with a better name for the last movie, but I was distracted by Longbottom leaf- smoking and Legolas and Gimli when they were playing the drinking game.. *smile* And this death of Saruman, I hear from Silja that it didn’t actually happen like that, and I was happy, pretty nasty way to die, didn’t look very pretty in the movie either.

This scene has always bothered us. Denethor eating. What’s with those tomatoes? Is he not capable to eat without bursting half of the tomato on his beard? But the song Pippin sings.. Aww.

03:46 The trolls with huge drums march towards Minas Tirith. Silja wants to be one of them.. *smile*

04:14 How the time flies. Disc number one is watched along with the Easter egg…
And disc two has started. Legolas just shot Peter Jackson…

04:18 Lovely smell of coffee fills the room. And the only way I’m going to survive this spider on the screen is to picture him as an elephant or something..

04:42 The crazy guy Denethor is trying to burn himself and he’s son alive. And Gandalf is hitting people with the staff that just exploded..
Then there is fighting… You know how it goes…

05:06 Sam rescues Frodo from the tower of Orcs. That’s nothing special, but the lamp in the background… It looks like an Orcs head and a red light is burning inside.. Is this the red lights area? Frodo and Sam in the tower.. Aw, crap, Middle-earth is really the place to be for gay couples..
(Sorry if we spoiled all good there was in the movie. Just forget what I said..)

At the black gate some horses disappear mysteriously..

05:34 Frodo says: “The Ring is mine.” and puts it on he’s finger.. Ah that idiot.
Smeagol rushes to get him and it’s a fight. Frodos finder is bitten off by Gollum and the guy falls to the hot lava. Ring is destroyed.

05:40 “It’s gone, it’s done.”

Then there are the other endings, but there is not much to tell and I’m like really tired of this writing and translating business already..
I just want to say, and we ALL think that Aragorn should never brush his hair..

It’s over. We are, as a matter of fact, still alive, and we are able to share this very rare recording with you. I am terribly sorry that a lot of the original text was left out, ‘cause there were a lot of privet jokes and some jokes that only the people who live in Finland would understand. But there is something we learned from this experience. IT’S POSSIBLE!!! If you want to do the same thing, you can try, but don’t blame us if you won’t make it. We had a rough time at some points and it left us very tired but happy. It’s a fun thing to do. But I trust you, DO NOT start watching if you know you have school the next day or something, cause the morning after.. Well let’s just say it pain. Stomach-aches are very common and yes there might be a little need for sleep. (Look who’s talking; I have slept about four hours since we finished the marathon and I wrote this, and I have also been outside. I took a walk, 7 kilometres. Try and beat that, I know you can. But now I must end this. Even though it has been fun, I have written about two hours here and I’ve got school to attend to tomorrow. So, I bid you farewell –for now.
