I jumped at his throat the first chance I got. He spun around with his handgun ready to fire, but I was too fast. I grabbed his arm and pinned him to the ground. I knew the others would be coming soon. So I wasted him quick. I tore his throat out with my teeth. I wasn’t always a vampire. The only difference between me and them is they die easily. I’m a hybrid. Half-Man/Half-Vampire. All Hate. I hate Vampires cause if it wasn’t for them my girlfriend Jennifer would be alive. They kidnapped me and her just for the heck of it. They bit me and left me to turn into one of them. They waited weeks to feed me. I somehow survived. I went mad with hunger. They even convinced me Jenny was dead. Two years later they said they had a surprise for me. I hate surprises. They walked in with Jennifer, Tied her to a chair two feet away from me. They walked out of the room like this was some sick game. A strange man walked in after the vampires left. He just said “Enjoy” and walked back out. They never fed me again. I tried to talk to Jenny but she was gagged. All she did was mumble and cry.
Days, weeks, went by. They fed Jenny, but never me. Everyday I was getting a step closer to madness. Then one day I just snapped. I got up off the floor, after who knows how long, after being fed scarcely, after being too weak to even stand. I stood. I was no longer a full vampire. I don’t what happened but I just walked over to Jennifer and whispered “I’m sorry.” Her eye’s widened as I bit her. Then everything went black. I finally came to my senses a few days later. I woke up to find myself covered in blood, a mangled chair, and scrapes of clothes, bones, and some scrapes of meat. I finally remembered what happened. The screams……...the blood……….Jennifer. That was the last time I ever cried.
The cops had just started to notice a pattern’s in the death of people in the area. I know cause I’ve been watching them. I was just a regular guy. The same kind of person you would see walking down the street. I wish I could say that now. Anyway, the first time I ever saw a vampire it was three years ago. I was at the local morge catching up on the new arrivals. It was like a hobby. It was about six thirty in the morning. I was about to leave when the delivery from the local hospital came in. I decided to stay to see the bodies. All the body bags looked the same as usual. One of them caught my eyes though. It looked the same as the other ones but there was something about this one that was different. I watched as the medical examiners began to perform the autopsy. A middle-aged man was taken out of the bag I couldn’t stop staring at. The next thing I know he jump’s up off the table, stab’s the examiners with a surgical blade, and jump’s through the window in the wall dividing the lobby from the Storage area of the morgue.
He landed a couple feet away from me but I was close enough to see the rage and fright in his eyes. I tried to stop him from leaving; I was about as confused as he was. I barely got to get a good hold of him but he already sent me soaring through the front window. When I landed on my back I felt like a football at the super bowl. I got up just in time to have the freak grab me, lift me off my feet, and then just light up like a cigar dipped in gas. He ran off like a thief a thief with the fear of god. He made it about ten feet before he burst into flames. All I could do was pick up a hand full of ashes and bring them to the morgue. When they asked me what happened I had to laugh, shake my head, and just walk out. I couldn’t even explain what happened there to Jennifer. I don’t know what she thought about me, but I do know two things: We were in love and I regret not telling her the truth about the “work” I do. Afraid of what she might think of me I left everything to bottle up inside me. Enough about the past. As I stand above my fallen foe I heard a noise in the distance. I grabbed up the handgun and ran in the direction the noise came from. It must have been vampires cause humans wouldn’t have started to fire before I was within ten feet of the last corner between us. I dove stomach first to the floor the second I heard the shots go off. I fired on my way down. I shot five out of the seven vampires right in the lungs. They’re going to die slow deaths. I’m amazed how the moment I got up ready to a plant a bullet between they’re eyes my gun jammed for a second so I did the next best thing. I smacked one with the gun. Shot him in mid-air. (I loved the way his body went limp on his way down.) I jumped up and round house kicked the second one. I took out my ankle knife and slit the last guy’s throat. He bled to death. I stopped for breath and watched them all burn up. (Where’s the marshmallow’s?) Something was wrong. The guy I sliced wasn’t dead yet. I saw as he struggled with his last breath to reach something. I knew what it was. Hoping I was wrong I dove at him. With my knife still in my hand I plunged it into his heart.
I heard a “beep” sound the second I stabbed him. I got up and ran out of there. When I was a couple feet away from the door I heard a loud explosion behind me. I got out just in time to have the end of my jacket burned. Knowing that the police would be there soon I hopped on my motorcycle but not before I pulled out my gun and shot the last couple of vampires running out of the warehouse burning alive. I sped away just in time to find myself being chased by some vamps in a mustang. I sped through traffic but I couldn’t shake them. I decided to see if I could get rid of them any other way. I went down the boardwalk doing sixty-eight only to swerve around a bench that seemed to be bolted down. The car went straight into it, spinning out of control it but they quickly recovered before I could make it far. I had one last trick up my sleeves. I turned straight toward the train yard. The second it came into view the Mustang hit me in the back so hard I knew I was lucky not to have bitten my tongue off. He kept honking his horns at me as if it was supposed to be a threat. I closed my eyes the second I crossed the train tracks. I opened my eyes and made a sharp left. The guys in the Mustang tried to follow me across by turning left while crossing the tracks. I smiled the moment I heard the sound of the honking interrupted by the sound of a Mustang GT being torn in half by an oncoming train.
I didn’t stop until I was clear out of town. I rode until I was in a town I had never been in before. I left my Ninja at the closest parking lot I could find. I walked around until I found the local nightwalkers. Usually drug dealers hiding in alleys, or people who had the thirst of blood in they’re eye. I can’t go around just shooting people. That’s the bad thing about hunting vampires, finding them. I spotted a couple of them chatting at a street corner. The first chance I got I pulled out my magnum with the equipped silencer and fired some rounds. They never knew what hit them and they never will. I knew what they were there for. They were stalkers. They spy on normal people during there nightly routines, try to figure out where they will be the next night and get them before they reach there destination. I saw the person they were stalking. A teenage girl buying some soda. She couldn’t be over nineteen or twenty years old. I waited at the corner until she came out. She looked around as if something was wrong. I followed her just to keep an eye on her. By the time she reached the end of the block she was already being attacked by a bunch of vampires. They pushed her into alley, she didn’t scream but someone else did. I ran around the corner to find myself standing in ashes and bullet shells. I walked ahead to find the same jacket the girl was wearing completely empty. Not even a scratch. I knew she was a hunter like me but I knew one other thing. We will meet again. I’m sure of it.
“So that’s all you can tell me?” said a man. “That’s about it.” Reply’s another person. “ What do you have to say, Hannibal?” replied the voice. “I hate vampires. Is that enough, James?” Replied Hannibal. “Yeah but I have a surprise for you….. I’m a vampire.” Says James. Hannibal takes out a gun and fires some shots at James, then throws James through the room wall. “I hate surprises.” Replies Hannibal as he jumps out the window.
