Here we go, I figured I should post something on here. Sadly my dad is working with our server we save everything on, so I am locked out of my drawings (or I would post some of those too ><). So here's a start, my first blog on tokyopop.
I went to Taste of Chaos a few weeks ago, sadly my friends and I missed Despair's Ray's performance, but MUCC and the Underneath were absolutely amazing! The Underneath was so interactive with the crowd and MUCC was so energetic it had so many people that had not been fans before the concert buying their merchandise. Myself I had known about MUCC and Despair's Ray, but The Underneath were new to me. I bought their album needless to say. Kudos to Tokyopop for being on list for those responsible for helping get them all the way to United States and espacially on tour all over (like in my home state of Michigan)! So keeping working with that *hint hint* the fans appreciate it
Next on the list of things going on in my life is my anime club or what could be called "the dreaded ADD free for alls that sometimes include anime" *sighs* Its alot of work, trying to get everything going and organized. First of all its at my house and as a senior in highschool that means a crowd of anime, game and jrock crazed teens under my parents roof. So to make sure there's not too much noise, nothing gets broken (sent to another world) or otherwise manhandled my parents limited the members to ten, which I have to say for the moment I have thankful for, until things get more calmed down (high school drama plus anime geeks equals badness).
Then there was the convention incident, I offered the idea up to the members of trying our hand at cosplay and the usual hijinks at the local motor city comic convention, the member we had basically dubbed vice president had a better idea. "My dad offered up to help us get to ACEN again this year", ACEN for those who don't know is the Chicao anime convention and the biggest anime con in the midwest. Hey if her and her dad were going to help us do it, then why not. Well, it went simply from "we" working on it to about half the group asking me about a month ago, "why haven't your parents paid for it yet? Do I give you the money? YOU are the leader of this club aren't you?" go figure, my parents had never been in on this, I didn't have a way to pay online and what happened to the vice pres' helping with all of it? In the end we ended up being too late and everything had jumped too much in price for any of us to really go. So it was up to me, to see what I could do with everyone's frustrations, for most of the members ACEN would have been there first convention. It came down to thus, a good pep talk about how although ACEN wasn't in the picture, we learned alot and there was always next time which meant alot more saving could be done. So Motor city comic con was brought back up as well as Yoma ANIME con, both were alot cheaper considering that travel costs were next to nothing compared to ACEN, so that was solved over the course of what seemed like eons.
Now has been keeping on task. Our Vice Pres' confided to telling me that she found our club to be preferrably be a "friendly get together" a place where she could contact everyone at once and hang out and that I shouldn't be such a stickler about sticking to the Japanese culture stuff, since everyone had other interests, so casually too and during my first class of the day (she sits across from me). I looked up *tilts head, blankly* "what?"
"Well, you know we've been wanting to go see Cloverfield... and there's that kayaking trip I was talking about..."
*insert devastated chibi* "You've got to be kidding me... babe we are OTAKU....DESU.... a anime/ Japanese culture club..." she gave me the dirtiest glare I had ever seen from her, *waves hands, yes I do that...* "not that you and everybody can't see Cloverfield, just do it outside club time, so all our friends that don't have anime as an interest can come..." she seemed to be listening, until like a guy in a shojo manga I said something stupid, "that way I don't have to go..." ding ding... she's pissed already... Well, we argued and didn't talk again until the end of the 90 min. block. Whoo... my compromise is 20 minutes at the beginning of each meet (and I time it, lol), "say whatever off topic thing you have to say in 20 min, and go!" and well, a buddy of mine who has now taken on vice pres' has offered with some non-anime loving friends to hold movie nights at their houses. *shrugs* My buddy (let's call him Ashfer), says I need to spot being so nice and put my foot down more often.
The point of all that being that this meet should be interesting. I get to test out the 20 minute off-topic time, also give a little pep-talk/lecture on the mission statement of Otaku-desu, and then get into club stuff. This meet is a member's birthday meet. Which means thus, they get to bring their favorite anime or ones they would like the group to be exposed to and we watch a few episodes of each for that meet. I figure that way, the group gets shown two things: one. what type of anime each member likes and two. they get shown alot of anime quickly and efficiantly to think about next time we are getting ready to make a list of anime to vote on to watch. When I say anime (just thought about this) I probably shouldn't because it could be live-action Japanese films too or with the member for this week she wanted to show a few jrock videos (I told its fine because they do connect to what we're doing within the club). Its very interesting for this member, she chose Azumanga Daioh, D. Grayman, Fruits Basket, Gazette music videos and she requested that the rest of the meet be dedicated to finish up Host Club and then the member that has a birthday right after hers, he chose: Raxephon, Evagelion, FLCL, Golden Boy and I think Kenshin or something... that's alot of different types of anime right there.
Its been rough, but I think this meet will be a good one and that everything can only get cooler as we go... Oh we can't forget that Trillium Cinemas in our area was showing films from Japan recently and we went and saw Vexille by the makers of Appleseed (I highly recommend it, a new twist on an old sci-fi plotline) and we were the only ones in the theatre, we really need to send them a belated thank you card.
I saw the Deathnote live-action recently, it seems alot of people online disliked it, I thought it was alright. Its always cool to see your favorite characters really brought to life, Ryuk looked great! I could be a little biased though, I liked the actor playing Light, he was Shuya in Battle Royale, he seems to like making movies that make you think about the value of human life, and although a bit cheesy at times, he seems to have a passion for each character he plays. L was humorous as always.
I am happy that anime is on Sci-fi once again! Its been ages, I was little last time Sci-fi showed anime, my dad used to tape 'em (back when Forever Knight, SeaQuest and Quantum Leap were part of the regular schedule ^_^). Ashfer and his friend are really into Noien, and all of us were excited over Tokko (Tohru Fukjisawa WHOOT!). I watched Tatics the other day, I remember reading the first volume the day after it came out and well I don't remember it quite so goofy... *sweatdrop* then again I remember the goblin bishi running around after his rice bowl (^_^).
