New To The Gullwings (Final chapter)

I released her, “Oh god, you were crying…”

“No, I’m all right,” she wiped away the last of the evidence.

“You don’t have to lie to me, you know. I know you were crying, it was heartbreaking.” A sudden question beat at my mind. “What am I to you?” She seemed taken aback by the question. “I want honesty here.”

“I honestly don’t know,” she averted her gaze.

“Allow me to show you what you are to me?” I questioned carefully, knowing this could be the last time I spoke to her. If this didn’t work, if she didn’t like it…

“Y-yes.”

I leaned so close I nearly kissed her, but her reaction made me pull away. “Forget it,” I muttered, lifting the fish and heading to the edge of the beach. Yuna followed after me where I wished she hadn’t. “Yuna, forget it, it’s against your teachings anyway.” I set the fish aside for a moment.

Yuna didn’t move at all, not the entire time I set up a fire. Even when I began to cook the fish she hadn’t moved from that spot. Now she knew, but she wasn’t leaving, she wasn’t speaking either.

I ignored the worry clawing at me, and began to eat. I silently motioned that she could eat as well. She simply sat down next to me, and I knew I had to break this silence, or do what I wanted to. I couldn’t find the words, so I leaned over and kissed her.

I was surprised when she didn’t pull away. I stopped the kiss short, wishing not to push my luck. I hoped the silence had been broken. That she would at least storm away with hatred of me.

“That’s why you said it was against my teachings,” she finally whispered. “I don’t care,” she added.

“But won’t Yevon,” she shook her head. “What about the others?” She just shook her head again. “What about the rumors of that guardian when you were defeating Sin?”

“I don’t chase my past anymore,” she whispered. “I made that promise to someone after defeating Vegnagun.”

We both glanced back to see Paine and Rikku approaching. “We were worried you two had run off.” Rikku sat down beside us. “Who did the fishing?”

I pointed to the clothes I was wearing, “uh me.” I swallowed another piece of my glorious meal, “I’ll get more.” I offered my fishing services easily.

They declined, and that was the end of it. I had Yuna, she’d agreed. I could finally stop chasing something. We all sat there, eating what little food I’d gathered, joking and telling odd stories. I felt like I no belonged somewhere.
