Twisted Fate pt. 38

It’s been nearly three months since I’ve written, unless I miss my guess. This is partly for personal reasons, mostly because I’ve been so busy, unmotivated, and getting into a relationship. I give myself props for that one. The other reason is that the storyline isn’t progressing as it should. It is moving too slowly, and for that, I’m losing readers. Even the best stories can’t go on forever. I’m again in the process of re-organizing the story. For time’s sake, I won’t change it on here. I’m also in the process of finding where the first book ends, and the second book begins. I need to make the decision soon. So, here you go, finally!

The couple woke up to the baby’s cries. It was morning, anyways. Kas picked up their child. She fed her as Ieyama went down to the kitchens. Once she finished, she too headed down the stairs. Ieyama and Trenton were sitting at a table, chatting. Kas gently sat down, so as to not wake the baby, who had fallen asleep again. She groggily rubbed her eyes with the back of her free hand, then grabbed a piece of bread with jam. Nibbling at the corners, she looked at the baby. It was going to take a lot of getting used to. She noticed Ieyama and Trent gazing at it, too.

“She’s beautiful. A real treasure,” spoke Ieyama.

“Yes. She reminds me…someone I once knew…” Trenton said. He was lost in though. Kas continued eating her bread. “Really?” she asked around a mouthful.

“Yeah. But I can’t even remember her name. I don’t remember a lot about her, either. Come to think of it, she probably spelled me.”

“Interesting. I don’t have anything to do, so I’m to the library. While I’m at it, I can think of names.” She brushed crumbs off of her shirt and stood up. She was still tired, so she didn’t transform to get to the library. Grabbing a few books when she got there, she sat in the same chair that she went into labor in yesterday. It was the most comfortable chair in the whole chamber. She had to find a book stand so that she could hold the baby as she read. Most were histories of witches, wizards, and rulers from the old continent. Becoming disinterested, she picked out a book on the new continent. This one was slightly more interesting, but Kas found herself dozing off.

The room was bright, decorated in colorful swatches of silk. It was a bedchamber. A soft breeze fluttered the curtains on the four-poster bed. Voices. Laughter.

“You know, you’re way too shy. Silly boy.” The voice was female, probably only a few thousand years old. Kas was listening sharply. It was awkward listening to such a conversation, but she was quickly being drawn in.

“I don’t mean to be. It’s just…just…I don’t know. I’ve never…” The voice sounded familiar, but the stutter didn’t. She was pretty certain that it was Trenton. That made it even more awkward.

“Oh, come on. You’re such a ninny. It’s not that bad. Really, it isn’t. You just-“

“Hey! Don’t-“

“But I only wanted-“

“No!” And then an unclothed youth jumped out of the bed. A hand reached out, pulling him back. By then there was no mistaking the boy. The head of tawny blond hair gave it away.

“Amacia!” The girl screamed. The ground shook, and Kas was thrown into empty space.

Kas shivered as she fell back into reality. Such dreams were always too real to forget. She knew that the girl was probably the one that her child reminded Trenton of, which scared her. She didn’t know the spell word used, but it didn’t sound good. She looked at the baby. Hopefully she didn’t turn out like the girl in her dream. This child was supposed to have a bright future. She began reading again, this time picking up a different book. It was a tale about a fox that lost his tail. She read out loud to her little sleeping girl. She didn’t stir, but a smile came across her face. Kas finished reading it. In the end, a kindhearted faery granted him a new tail for saving her from drowning in a bowl of water. Such faeries were called kimis. Kas had no idea why. After looking at the pictures for a bit longer, she fell asleep again.
