Blech, I need a better name for this stuff.
Anyway, shameless plugs!
Manga Recon cranks out the reviews this week, with the usual weekly review from moi, along with a new installment of Manga Mini's with reviews from Katherine and I. In the
Manga Mini's for this week Katherine takes a looks at
Andromeda Stories vol. 2,
La Corda d'Oro vol. 6 and the first volume of
Short Sunzen! Meanwhile I go over
Uzumaki vol. 3, the finale of Junji Ito's horror masterpiece, and
Appleseed I/D, a nifty lil' book of supplementary material and more for Shirow's cyberpunk epic.
Speaking of cyberpunk manga.. in a normal length review I look at
NOiSE, a prequel to Tsutomu Nihei's
Blame! I've actually been kind of curious about Blame! since this past Nov. or so and I'm glad I was able to get a taste of Nihei's work via
NOiSE. Fun fact! Nihei also did a Wolverine mini-series for Marvel entitled
Wolverine: Snikt! Sadly it seems that Marvel has let the collected edition of the series slide of out of print. There's also a single disk anime thingy for
Blame! listed on Amazon, don't know much about it though. Sounds like a single disk with several vignettes though. Huh.
Anyway..
I have to admit that I haven't had a whole lot of contact with Sixxx, she had commented a few times I think and she was the only person to have bothered to read my single fiction piece I put up here, but her banning has certainly set off a chain reaction in the TP blogosphere.
Rain66 has
a nice entry about the incident which has turned up on.. well.. just about every TP blog on my RSS feed. The linked entry above also contains links to other entries about the incident as well. Worth a look.
Elsewhere in the manga blogosphere..
Actually.. Brigid's entry for Thursday has links to just about everything else that's really caught my eye lately.
Mangablog: Manga in the Gutters is choke full of nifty links. I highly recommend checking out the
Icarus Publishing blog entry she has linked, it talks about and collects various links and tidbits regarding the current ADV situation. It's also worth checking out the links in that entry as well, particularly for the
AoD "Life After ADV" article.
Lori Henderson and the rest of the folks at Manga Village roll out a few reviews of their own. They take a look at titles such as
Eyeshield 21 vol. 1 and
Gunsmith Cats: Revised Edition vol. 1. For a list of all the titles they reviewed this week check out
this entry. While you're there take a gander at Lori's list of
releases and recommendations for Tokyopop's Feb '08 schedule.
Also, a week or two back
Manga Entertainment finally rolled out the message board/profile section of their website. At the moment the forums seem absolutely dead, but it might still be worth a look.
In TV related news,
Comcast has decided to bring the axe down on the AZN channel. Shame that. While I didn't watch it all the time I did enjoy some of their anime, movies, HK dramas and even some original programming. Their Sept/Oct horror programming has also been really good these past few years.
On the upside, this coming Monday and Tuesday brings the expansion of Sci-Fi's Ani-Monday block! On Monday their regular schedule of
Tactics/Noein will be bumped in favor of...
Ninja Scroll which should be... interesting. While on Tuesday they kick off the expansion with the
Read Or Die OVA.
I think that's about it for now..

MP, Matt Paladino, the webmaster that's at the heart of the Sixxx controversy. Sorry, I'd just read the LJ page before posting the comment. In the link to the LJ page (http://tokypopblows.livejournal.com/604.html), there was link to MP's blog. I clicked it and I got the wonderful " that page doesn't exit..." page. A step back revealed that ALL of MP's blogs and comments were gone.

Yeah, you do need a snazzier title. How about something like Lost in the Crowd... Thanks for the plugs too. I really appreciate it. :) And thanks for mentioning the thing with Sixxx. I had no idea anything was going on, though I did notice her missing from the most popped on the front page. You should check out MP's profile. The blogs and comments are suspiciously missing...
