Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, heck even Pokemon: all these franchises left a permanent stamp on the history of RPGs.

They have spawned countless installments and millions of hard core fans.  But there are other excellent RPGs out there that are equally deserving of sequels and new installments.

These games are the franchises that deserve to continue on and live on in our gaming community. Hey, I'm Manga626sh.

And I'm Halfmoonmaiden.  We have made a list of some of our favorite RPGs that we feel should have new chapters.

Welcome to RPG Gamers Top 10 Games That Need To Go On!!

Number 10

Sigma Star Saga

Game Boy Advance

Namco

Sigma Star Saga for the GBA tells the story of Ian Recker, a human pilot sent to investigate the evil Krill aliens only to find the enemy is not who he thinks.  With elements from both RPG and shooter games, the story of Recker and his alien lover Psyme as the rebuild both worlds deservers to continue.

Some say that this game came out 10 years too late, but I'm guessing they're referring to if it was a console game.

It may be a little different from what gamers are used to, but the story and game play are engaging.

Hey, you got Defender in my Zelda! That's what it seems like.

Heh heh that is really a good description of it.

Number 9

Tactics Ogre: Knight of the Lodis

Game Boy Advance

Atlus

The last game in the Tactics Ogre saga was Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis for the GBA.  A turn by turn strategy game, it has smooth battle systems and an in depth storyline.

The series has kind of always been the forefather of the strategy RPG genre and for that reason alone, we want to see more of this series.

A new installment could make good use of the touch screen and microphone features of the DS.

At least it would fit there if the series does not fit on a console.

Very true.

Number 8

Breath of Fire Series

Multiplatform

Capcom

The Breath of Fire series had two games on the GBA and also some on the SNES.  The series had a charm of its own, with a world to save, different races from dragons to monkeys.  The game play itself was also solid.

The last time Capcom's flagship RPG franchise was seen was on the PS2 called Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter. Then again, that came out in 2002, I think?

That is too long ago if you ask me.

It's sad to say that since then, I guess Capcom has kind of abandoned the RPG realm.... unless you count with Mega Man.

Mega Man has been done to death.  He's one franchise we don't need to continue.

Even Mega Man Star Force is just Mega Man Battle Network under a new name.

Bring us a new Breath of Fire, not just a slapped together Mega Man, Capcom!

Number 7

Radiata Stories

Playstation 2

Square Enix

Raditata Stories for the PS2 was a charming RPG experiences with countless quirky characters to meet and wicked villains to battle.

The characters themselves, admittedly, are quite bizarre, including Jack Russell himself. A little too eager to make a name for himself, eh, Bucko?

Such a cocky kid...

In fact, all the characters are quite weird. We won't go into too much detail, but you'll be surprised at how well they're done. No cookie cutters here.

Stock characters are something many RPGs suffer from these days.  A new chapter of Radiata Stories full with unique characters would go a long way to cure that.

Not to mention the action based battle system, and the way you give commands to your troops like a general.

It really gives you feeling of being in an actual battle.

Why didn't this game do that well commercially?

Perhaps it was too different, or gamers like to stick with the big names like Final Fantasy.  People, you need to try new things too.

The fact that original games like this get the shaft is pretty sad.

It sure is.

I think that kind of decided the fate of us seeing a sequel.

*sigh* unfortunately, money is often the deciding factor.

Number 6

Skies of Arcadia

Dreamcast/Gamecube

Sega

Now most people have never heard of Skies of Arcadia because it was on the ill fated Sega Dreamcast, but it was good... real good.

There was even a Director's Cut for the Game Cube.

Yet even on that console, this game never got the attention it so rightfully deserved.

It had a very unique world idea; the entire game took place on airships that hovered over the earth.

All lands were above the clouds. This game even sometimes allowed you to fight in said airship. How cool is that?

Very cool!  It is an idea that deserves another game to explore it.

The game did establish quite a cult following. It's a shame that I bet the plans for a sequel were scrapped for another crappy 3D Sonic.

Sega, you should be developing more quality games like Skies of Arcadia instead of the kind of junk you have been putting out recently.

Number 5

Riviera : The Promised Land

Game Boy Advance/Playstation Portable

Atlus

Riviera: The Promised Land, originally for the GBA, told the story of Ein, the Grim Angel, who rebelled against the gods to save the land of Riviera .  It now has a PSP remake with new cutscenes and more voice acting, but it doesn’t do much to further the story.

Now, we've already said so much about it, but there is one reason why it's on this list and one reason only.

We want a sequel that continues the story or maybe even a prequel that tells the story of the war 1000 years before.

If a unique leveling system, easy movement, fun combat, and the chance to woo girls can't get another game made, I don't know what to tell you.

Same here.

Yeah, most claim that Yggdra Union is the spiritual sequel, but it's not exactly one to me.

No, I want a real sequel!

Number 4

Luminous Arc

Nintendo DS

Atlus

We defiantly know this one.

Luminous Arc is a turn by turn strategy game just released for the DS.  With a solid storyline and battle system, and even some voice acting, a rarity for the DS, it is a definite must have for DS owners who are also RPG fans.

When I did a review for this game, I mentioned a lot of this stuff myself. It's really that good, people.

It maybe too soon to say this game needs a sequel because it just came out, but we really hope it will be popular enough to make developers committed the a sequel.

I have heard rumors going around that the developers are thinking about making this a trilogy. You want it to be true?

I really want it to be true!

The game is quite awesome in single player, and the multiplayer, especially when playing online, really makes the whole package a treat.

The characters are also unique and engaging, from a kind priestess with a shocking secret to a witch-obsessed scholar.  Ok, maybe he's not so engaging but you get the idea.

Yeah, I think so. To be honest, I definitely want a sequel here.... and possibly have voice throughout the whole game?

That would truly be awesome.

Number 3

Yggdra Union

Game Boy Advance

Atlus

As we mentioned earlier, Yggdra Union is considered by many as the spiritual sequel to Riviera , but I don't think it is. It's a strategy RPG. That's a significant difference from Riviera .

That's true.

What's unique about this game is the combat system. A single unit represented six soldiers, and when two opposite sides engage, it's a real skirmish. Swords slashing, brooms flying, everything.

Sounds awesome.

When will there ever be a sequel, though?

Hmm it is hard to say.

I just feel like I want to see if Yggdra does lead her country toward peace.

It seems a worthy sequel to me.

Still, how do you pronounce her name? Yegg... deeraaa?

They should have voice acting in the sequel so you would know!

Yeah, I think so.

Number 2

Golden Sun Series

Game Boy Advance

Nintendo

Golden Sun had two games on the GBA, but they really left a good impression.  With gorgeous backgrounds and detailed storylines, they are truly remarkable RPGs.

The only bummer about the games is that in order to transfer data (if you didn't have two GBAs and a link cable) you had to use an insanely long password.

But the reward for linking was pretty good as you got levels and abilities from the other game and collecting all the magical Djinn creatures in both games let you pull off some powerful magic. The games, though, were quite sweet for their time, and I couldn't believe Nintendo brought them here.

That's why a third title would be very cool,

Let the Golden Sun shine on!!

Yeah!

All right, let's recap before we get to number 1.

Number 10: Sigma Star Saga

Number 9: Tactics Ogre

Number 8: Breath of Fire

Number 7: Radiata Stories

Number 6: Skies of Arcadia

Number 5: Riviera : The Promised Land

Number 4: Luminous Arc

Number 3: Yggdra Union

Number 2: Golden Sun

So, what is the one game that we think deserves a sequel the most?

Number 1

Odin Sphere

Playstation 2

Atlus

Odin Sphere for the PS2.

This game actually is a beat em up and an RPG in a time when 2D graphics were a thing of the past.

It does much to revive the 2D goodness and it is an impressive gift for the PS2 near of the end of its life.

The graphics truly are stunning. The character sprites actually look like concept art from other games.

That's truly impressive.  A lot of love was put in there you can tell.

The combat is also engaging, and the storyline is based on mythology, a nice change of pace from what we normally get.

It certainly is begging for a new game.

Yes, don't I know it. The best part about it is the different characters, of which have different paths, and actually play differently.

That makes it more games in one in a way.

If you have a PS2, this game is a must have.

Definitely.

So, that's all for now from us.

We hope you enjoyed our list and if you don't know these games go check them out.

Well, good night...

And good RPGing!
