Chapter 21;

Decisions

       They knew he was depressed and looking exhausted and tired lately but they didn’t expect him to act irrationally.  He barely said anything to them and it was becoming even rarer to see a smile on his face.

“I’m not right for you,” he said often to Death, which she countered with, “And I’m too dangerous to be around, and yet here we are!” Ssnare just looked away when she said that.  He still hung out with Death and Thatch, but was solemn and usually deep in thought.  They knew something was wrong but they didn’t know what until that is it was too late. 

       “Have you seen Ssnare lately?” screeched the bird-lady teacher, to Death.

Death looked distant before responding, “No, he’s sick,” came the automatic response from her.  She had already used excuse many times before during her first classes, and was getting tired of it already.  Death put her head in her hand and silently worried about Ssnare, knowing she hadn’t seen him since last night. He was acting peculiarly strange, talking nonsense and pacing the room franticly and indecisively.  In the end he was starting to scare her, and when she told him that he pulled her towards him, and kissed her.  But when he pulled away he left the room, in a hurry saying ‘sorry’ over his shoulder to her.  That was the last time Death saw Ssnare.

“Any vord yet?” asked a concerned Thatch confronting Death on the rooftop after classes.

“No none,” Death responded crestfallen, and disheartened. 

“Ve haft to keep looking,” Thatch said his face stoned and serious.
Death nodded her agreement, and looked off into the distance.

“Vot are you going to do?” asked Thatch.

Death looked at Thatch with a fierce look in her eyes, “I am going to look for him,” she said angrily.
