A Quick Guide to Anime Abridged Series

Hi! Looking for a good spoof of a favorite anime? Always tired of sitting through crappy dubbs? Well, you're in luck my friend! With my personal experience and good examples, I have put together tips and qualities of a good abridged series.

  • What is an abridged series? An abridged series is a fan made spoof of an anime. They can be any time period long and usually make fun of the show in question. Being made fun of shows that the show is really good, which explains the number of dubbs. Now here are some key qualities of a desent abridged series:
  1. It is extremely random- Usually, the abridged series has no rellevence to the actual series in question, either that or pretty much everything is warped.
  2. No actual script is used- Most of the time, actual auto from the series is used in the dubb. If you hear the real character's voices, the spoof is most likely to be a piece of crap.
  3. You can actually hear the people talking- You need to be able to hear the video clearly. If you can't, turn the volume up. If it's still fuzzy or really faint, don't watch it.
  4. Look for an original opening- Most of the time, the creator will take an opening song from the origional series and make a new, origional opening. Even if it's just clips and a song, it still works. No opening? Move along to the next video.
  5. The British have a great sence of humor- British people usually make the best abridged series. You can usually tell if the dubber is British by an accent. It's not extremely important, American's can make quality dubbs too, but if you're looking for a favorite, this is something to look for.
  6. Quotes to other shows- There is always an oppertunity to make fun of anouther show/movie/crappy abridged series/ect. It is almost the backbone of a good dubb.
  7. Read the comments- If lots of people give good reviews, it's most likely to be good. But remember, people's opinions are all different. The mass majority may love the video, but you may think it's the worse thing on this side of the Earth.
  8. There is some kind of ending- There should be some sort of credits, usually just saying who did the abridged episdoe. There may be characters doing a quote from a movie or tv show, or some kind of refrence to a part in the video.
  9. Makes fun of filler episodes- Ya know? The episodes with absolutly no relevence to the origional manga? Not really making fun of them, more as saying what other people were afraid to say.

To end things with, here are in my opinion the best abridged series on the internet:

  • Yu-Gi-Oh! The Abridged Series by LittleKuribo. He's basically the one who started the madness. 19 episodes long, comments specials, twisted, and funny as hell.
  • Naruto the Abridged Series by MasakoX and Vegeta3986. The best Naruto abridged series out there and also funny as hell. 13 episodes and counting, a fan art results video, and comments specials. Definitly something to watch.
  • Full Metal Alchemist The Abridged Series by Prodigs. It just started, but it's THE abridged series for FMA fans. 5 episodes and I think it's still going. Makes fun of pretty much everything dealing with the show, and some other shows as well.

I hope this guide made your life a little easier. Don't be afraid to post a comment is the comments box saying what you think. Bye now!
