A Story of Love and Other Crap

My name is Beth Frink. I’m in the 8th grade and its 7th period math class, just about 10 minutes before the bell rings for me to go home. The cutest guy ever is sitting just one seat away from me and I try to act cool. I don’t think he knows I have the biggest crush on him or that I always look at him when he doesn’t notice. He doesn’t talk to me or look at me very often but when he does he is the sweetest guy in the world. His name is Donnie.

I’m sitting there dreaming about me and him even though I know nothing could ever happen between us when I hear in a whisper, “PSSSSSST, Beth!” And a paper ball hits my head. I open the crumpled paper and my heart starts pounding. Inside it reads:

Meet me in front of the class room after everyone leaves.

I need to talk to you in private.

From, Your Secret Admirer

Those remaining 7 minutes seem like an hour but finally the bell rings. I race outside with my things and watching to see who it might be. I see Lilly, Maria, Karen, Billy, George, Amanda, Cathy, and Donnie, followed by Krista, Matt, Anna and so on walking out of the class room. Well if Donnie already left who could it be? I anxiously wait there trying to see who it could possibly be and about two minutes later the last person the leave that class room is Joseph.

No! It can’t be him! Please God don’t let it be him! He turns towards my direction and is looking at me. No, no, no, no! Joseph is so ugly, annoying and such a wanna-be!

“Hey Beth! I need to ask you something.” My poor heart sinks down to my stomach. “I was just wondering, do you-?”

            “NO! I’m sorry but no!”

“Beth, what the hell is up with you? I just needed to know if you understood tonight’s homework! Goodbye!”

Oh, thank God it’s not Joseph. But who could it be? There’s no one else in the class room. As I’m looking in the classroom someone taps my shoulder and a familiar voice says my name. I’m frozen, I can’t move, and Donnie is right behind me.

“Beth,” he says again, “it’s, um, it’s me.” The he starts to speed up his speech. “Well… you see I’ve really liked you for a while now and I hope you feel the same way because I was wondering if you want to go out with me. I mean you don’t have to if you don’t want to but-”

“Yes” I said, and by now we’re blushing so hard we both look like two ripe cherry tomatoes. “I’m sorry but I need to get home. I Wish I could stay but my mom will kill me if I’m not home in soon.”

            “I’ll walk you home!”

“But don’t you live in the opposite direction?”

“Yeah but I don’t mind. I don’t need to be home until seven.”

“You really don’t have to do that.”

“But I want to!” And he grabs my hand. My heart starts pounding more than it already was. I walk all the way home with an overjoyed grin on my face and I couldn’t be happier.
