This is my first blog post on TOKYOPOP. I'm going to post some Things to Know.
Things to know. We'll start, I guess, with my general online behavior. I'm a grammar Nazi. There. I said it. So you can guess, then, that the "FTW!!1" in this title is meant to be taken ironically. I do things like that for comedic effect.
Thing to know: I do a *lot* for comedic effect. That's kinda how I live my life, you see.
Back to online behavior. Well, actually, that's most of it, right there. Of note is my tendency to get into arguments, especially with politically conservative Americans. And idiots, when the two don't overlap. ;-)
Offline, I confess, manga is not much more than a hobby. I find it fun and interesting, but only *generally* superior to domestic media. I imagine the ratio of good Japanese works to good American works to be no more than 6:4. Probably closer to 6:5, or something that doesn't factor down to a nice ratio set of single-digit numbers. I suspect the ratio of bad manga to bad comics (and bad anime to bad cartoons) to be in the area of 5:5.
However! I am a bit of an aspiring "manga-ka," though I shudder to use the phrase for various reasons. I have vague plans to publish a graphic novel someday, be it my own manga-styled story I have brewing, my friend's story that he wants me to do the art for, or something else entirely. If/when I start one, it'll be online first, and I'll be sure to link it from here. It'll actually probably *start* here. Something to look forward to, perhaps.
I want to do something in the style of the FLCL mangas, someday. Think FLCL meets Invader Zim, with completely different stories. Trying to write a story that merged those two would be fecking *insane.* But I could see the artwork being eye-*gasmic.*
Let's see. Okay, Grammar Nazism, manga-ka-ism, general toleration of domestic media, Zim/FLCL fan->aticism, hmm. Um, I'm 17, male, taken, high-schooling, unemployed, (looking at a job at the local library, a.k.a. paradise,) an avid reader even of books with no pictures whatsoever, a wasabi addict, able to eat jello with chopsticks, lick my elbow, and turn my eyes around inside my head, and not fond of narcissists, hypocrites, or arrogant/ignorant feckers.
I'll probably thing of more later, at which point I may or may not post it.
Quick edit: I'm sorry, but the TOKYOPOP blogging system is balls. No HTML? For *shame.*
See? Asterisks just don't convey things the same way italics do. And don't get me started on _underscores_. Bleurgh.
