set free my youth

Set free my youth

My faithful tutor I do apologize,

For now must I leave,

For my eyes grow weary,

As my head hangs low like the horse

 That heads to slaughter,

And my feet drag across the endless ground.

I must leave, I must leave, I must now flee in to the sunlight,

So that I may inhale the sweet intoxicating smell of fresh air.

I must depart myself from this dull and dreary room,

And find myself among things that have a pure sweet

 Passion for life abound

For now my youth feels barely there,

Hanging by a delicate thread.

Please do not judge one as young as I,

For it is to my greatest dread,

That one so youthful and in her prime,

Should be held within this prison,

Chained and gagged with labor and

Weighed down with worries not one youth should have.

Please I beg of you that for just one single day,

I be freed from this dreary and

 Load some burden,

To find my youth again.

I should not feel as the scullery maid,

Who has seen too many long years drag by,

Possessing a body as limp and as ragged as

The dish rag in her hand.

But rather feel as the young colt,

Free and full of spirit,

Who finds each day of his life

Something to relish with pure delight.

O please free me once more,

If just for a moment,

So that I can once again

Become the youth that I am.

this poem got me honorable mention in my second year of high school for the poetry contest. not much to brag about really. but here it is.
