The Sunset Strip in the West Hollywood district (or as the squares call it: "WeHo") was buzzing on Monday night, as TOKYOPOP and Meltdown Comics held the first-ever TOKYOPOP Tsunami event. A cacophony of pounding beats and glittering lights engaged the chock-a-block gallery full of manga, comic, anime fans, teh hipsters and curious LA types.
The decidedly seedy crowd was entertained by a bevy of A-list manga creators, including: Eric Wight (My Dead Girlfriend), Felipe Smith (MBQ), Jim Pascoe (Undertown), Ben Roman (I Luv Halloween), Stormcrow Hayes (Afterlife), Armand Villavert Jr. (Zapt!), Rikki and Tavisha Simons (Shutterbox), Trisha Hale (Grand Theft Galaxy).
TOKYOPOP also unveiled its arsenal of digital shorts, including the CG animation for A Midnight Opera and the I Luv Halloween music video for “Out of L.A.” featuring the LA pop-punk band The Dollyrots.
The beer and wine flowed until the wee hours. And don't blame us for the picture quality. The paparazzo was using a camera phone and nobody, not even him, could keep up with Felipe Smith’s truly heroic liquid intake and still take a good picture with a camera phone.
