May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month!!

May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, a celebration of Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States!

As many of you know, Asian Americans have a vibrantly diverse culture and their contributions to the US are endless... From music to art, technology, fashion, anime and let's not forget,...MANGA (YAY!), their impact is astounding and should be celebrated!!

So how can you celebrate APA Heritage Month?!

Most Asians and non-Asians will celebrate by enjoying a meal at an Asian restaurant or attending one of the many APA Heritage festivals or parades. There, you can try the various foods of different Asian cultures, watch performances, and learn about Asian American's history and culture!

Educate yourself more about an Asian past-time or what kids your age are doing in other countries! One cool Japanese lifestyle to check out is Gothic and Lolita- a fashion movement popular in Japan that is now making its way to the US! The Gothic and Lolita Bible is a great place to start! Its a fashion book / culture guide / art book complete with pictures, submissions from those in the community, and MORE!

Also, out in June 08, is the highly anticipated Manga School with Selena Lin... a guide on how to draw manga! The talented artist from China shows you step by step, how to draw... manga style! FINALLY... there will be a "how-to-draw" for manga artists or those who want to learn!

Lastly, a great way to celebrate is to host a dinner for your friends or family where you can cook an Asian meal for them! How impressed will your friends be when you cook a delicious, ethnic meal for them to enjoy?!

Here are a couple recipes to try:

Katsudon  (a popular and deeeelish Japanese dish)

Fried Rice (a classic Asian dish enjoyed by many cultures! Yum!)
