Chapter One

“Hey Kiya!”  Said Senji, waving his arm frantically.  I couldn’t help but laugh.

          “Hey Senji.  Got let out early again?” I asked as I walked up to him.

          “Kinda…”  we started walking.

          “Don’t tell me you ditched again, Senji..”

          “Well, class was boring!”

          “What was it this time?  Nose bleed?  Cramps?  Headaches?”

          “I just asked to go to the bathroom.”

          “L.O.L. Senji..”

Senji and I had been best friends since the seventh grade.  We’re now in the eleventh grade.  People says that if we ever went out with each other, we would make a great couple, but we’re just friends.  I cold say that when we first met, I was totally embarrassed.

                             *FLASHBACK*

I was crying cuz I just got beat up.  Middle school was a rough start for me, especially since I was the new kid.  All I did was ask where room B13 was but i asked the wrong group.  Turned out that they were the toughest girls in the school.  Anyway, they left me on the floor so I just cried.  Like, ten minutes later, I heard someone come up to me… he sat down.

          “You skipping class? I am. The name’s Senjikah Tsubenisha, but people call me Senji.”  I didn’t say anything.  “Wanna go outside?”

          I looked up and saw that he already stood up and held out a hand to me to help me up. *

                                      *PRESENT DAY*

          Senji and I went to the same school until freshman hyear, then he had to transfer cuz his dad got a new job.

          “Watchu thinking about?”  He asked.

          “About the first time we met.”

          “Speaking of which, you know what today is?”

          “Urm… 5 January.”

          “The first day we met, you were crying.”

          “You skipped class!”

Senji only gave me a funny look.

          “Remember that day?”  He asked me.

          “You took me out to the Sea Café.”

          “Yep.”  He stopped in front of me and opened a door.

          “Where are we?” I looked around as Senji sat down, “It seems familiar.”

          “It should, “ he chuckled and ordered something.

          “I know… it’s the Sea Café!”  I didn’t recognize it at first because they changed the coloring and moved some things around.  “So why are we here?’

          “Don’t you know?”

          I only gave him a confused look.  He laughed and ruffled my hair.  I took off my hair band since my hair’s messed up now.

          “Today’s 5 January,” he said.

          “I know, I told you that.”

          “The day I met you was 5 January too.”

          I gaped at him with my mouth wide open.  When the waiter came with our food, I waited until he was gone.

          “You remembered?!” I said—cuz guys usually don’t remember stuff like this.

          “Typical Kiya.  Of course I remember.  Today’s our 4^th year best friends anniversary.”

          “WOW!!”  I awed at him, “I can’t believe you remembered, Senji!”

          “Do you remember what we did nest after eating here that day?”

          “Umm… we went walking at the park.”

          “And you saw red roses and smiled.  That was the first time I saw you smile.”

          Aww… shit. =P  I can’t believe Senji remembers all this.  I laughed at the idea.

          “I got you a gift,” Senji said.

          “What? You didn’t have to…”  But Senji reached into his book bag and pulled out a single red rose.

          “Ohmigod!”  Tears were in my eyes now!  I was smiling so big that my cheeks were hurting.  “Senji, I can’t believe you!!”  I got up and sat down next to him.  He gave me the rose then I hugged him tight.

          “Ach… Kiya!  I need… to breathe…”

          “I don’t know what to say, Senji…”  I pulled back and looked at him.

          “Just give me a kiss on the cheek and we’ll call it a day,” he said.

          “You flirt,” I knew he was just kidding around but since today was so special, I gave him a kiss on the cheek anyway.

          “Well!”  He gasped and looked shocked, “The beautiful Kiyaha Sebene had finally laid a kiss upon this cheek of mine!”

          “Shut up, Oppa.  You’re so lame,” I said as I went back to my seat.

          “I love how your brown hair is so wild and long, Kiya,” he said as he touched my hair.

          “Flirt,” I said again as I hid my smile.

          “Yep, and don’t you forget, my precious jewel.”

          Senji and I just talked and played around for the rest of the day.  When he walked me home, I knew I had to give him something.  After I said good bye to him, I went to the kitchen and put the rose in a glass fill with water.  Remind me to tell you of my family later, but right now I’m gonna bake Senji his favorite chocolate cake! ^_^
