So I recently got the first couple episodes of the Saiyuki anime. I own the manga and absolutely adore it.
I started to watch the first episode of the anime, and found that I couldn't even finish it. First of all, the animation was not very well done in Saiyuki. It seemed kind of cheap. I can't stand to listen to dubs, so I watch the Japanese version with English subs. The Japanese voice actors were not very good at all. I didn't like Sanzo's voice, and I didn't really think Goku's voice fit his character at all. I don't think I ever even got to hear Hakkai's or Gojyo's voices. It just was not very good. I decided to not even bother with the rest of the series. Also, what little I saw of Sanzo's character, he seemed.... off... or different from the manga. I didn't like it.

I totally agree with you. But I think you should consider watching the 3 and 4th seasons. If you didn't like the art work or english cast in Gensomaden (which i didn't either) You should watch Saiyuki Reload and Gunlock. The art work is soooooo much better, and the english cast changed so they fit the character better in my opinion. The Japanese cast stays the same, but with the dramatic change in art work I think they are ok. The characters are also...you know more like themself's...like in the manga...ugh! I'm confusing myself ^^ So anyways. Yeah thats what I think. Like I said. You should consider watching Reload. I belive you will like that one better.
