PROLOUGE
Cultish chanting echoed through an old cemetery late one night. The figures in the cemetery all wore black robes draped around their faces with a star symbol in the middle of their necks. A girl and four other people. One female and the rest males, walked up to a sealed up burial room. "Crap, its sealed," muttered the girl in the black robe. "Shush, it’s just a rock some human blocked, no big deal." said the man in the black robe. He etched a weird symbol on the rock and placed him hand on it, he chanted a spell in some unknown language and the rock dissolved. The other girl in the black robe was astonished. "Shall we go in?" The people walked in, they stumbled to an open coffin with a shriveled corpse in it. The corpse had a stick in the chest area.
"This is it! My lords!" the girl exclaimed taking off the hood off her face. The other four looked down to the corpse. One of them smiled, showing ugly teeth. "Well done Kuria, this is the right corpse we want to resurrect." the man said, lifting his hood away to show a fair faced young man, but with scars all over his face and pointed demon ears. The others started drawing pentagrams around the corpse. "My lord, do I get my reward! Do I get to become a demon like you?" the girl asked with optimism. Her question wasn't answered. The female demon pulled a book out and chanted something in the same unknown language, then in Japanese. "Spill the blood of the human virgin, slit her throat, spill her blood, spill her blood! Spill her blood on the dried up blood-demon! And He will arise again!!"
The demons quickly grabbed the girl’s arms and held them to her back. "Hey, this isn't what we agreed on! What the hell is-" The demon grew his ugly talons and smiled. "You stupid humans never learn..." The demon cut her throat deeply in just seconds.
The girl gagged and gasped and she saw the blood pour from her neck and to the corpse. "Ha ha ha ha! Stupid girl! Never make deals with demons!" the other demon said. The female demon continued to chant as the blood flowed into the corpse’s mouth. Red glowing eyes opened, the corpse moved its arm stiffly. It shouted something from its half rotted throat.
Chapter 1: Tomoko
The time was coming to when my archery tournament was coming. It was days away, and after all the studying, I’d never gotten to train for it. I pulled back the tight string of my finely crafted bow, felt the tension rise as I pulled further back. I let it loose and listened to the satisfying wiz of the arrow as it cut through the air, landing a few centimeters away from the bulls eye. I cursed under my breath. I had to get this right. I was going against the best student bowmen in Japan! I restrung another arrow, breathing in and out very slowly as I adjusted my aim. I closed one of my eyes so that it seemed as if the arrow’s tip was poking the bulls eye tenderly. “Steady…Steady darn it…” He released the arrow, watching it’s blur strike straight center. I smiled as satisfaction washed over me, and feeling a rush of heat, unbuttoned the blue, silky school jacket I was wearing.
I walked over to an open window and looked out to the stormy streets of Tokyo. It was strange, I thought, for only moments ago it was a still and quiet night. Thunder crashed in the distance. I ignored it and reached into my pants pockets, pulling out a picture of a woman I adored, stroked it a few times with my slender, pale fingers and shoved it back in my pockets. My nights were usually busy with study, due to the constant tests of my private school, but this night was slow. There was no need for study because it was a weekend. I had three whole days to do what I wanted. There were never any tests on Mondays.
In fact, the archery range I was in now was apart of the school facilities, and it always lay open to any students who might want to release stress. It was just the opposite for me. The bow and arrows were the cause of my stress, but things didn’t bother me much. This was no different. I sighed as I walked over to station myself and sling a few more arrows before calling it a night. Then a faint noise reached my ears. It came from a few rooms away. Piano music, I assured myself. It was awfully strange that anyone’d be playing the piano this late though. I shoved the thought aside, deciding to ignore the music. I soon learned that I couldn’t. It mesmerized me, sending off voices in my head that called out, telling me to go and see who played the music. I involuntarily dropped the bow, plus the arrow that I clutched, and drug myself out of the mahogany doorway of the archery. A long hallway met me, where velvet carpeting lay either way, and ancient artifacts stay posted along the walls on display for students and visitors.
I let my ears do the walking as it led me up the halls, passing door after door until the piano keys were loudest, where, of course, the door to the music recreation room was. I placed my ear against the door, holding my breath because I thought it was so loud everyone could hear me. The tune was easily identified as Beethoven’s Moonlight, one of his eerier cords were being played now. I couldn’t recall anyone with such skill as this person. It was…amazing. I just had to know who was so brilliant of a musician. I reached for the knob, turning it slowly, pacing myself for whom ever it might be. Through the crack I had made, I saw a dark, shadowy figure moving his fingers quickly across the keys. The figure made playing a piano seem so easy. I gasped in awe of the magnificent skill it withheld and found myself standing in the room, breathing short so that the person couldn’t hear me.
A deep and almost dark voice crept through the air to my ears. I hopped in surprise as he spoke. “Welcome. I’ve been awaiting you.” Those words were so simply said yet very confusing to me.
“How? I mean, do I know you…?” I said hesitantly, thinking about running before the person could turn.
The piano music fell silent as he pressed all fingers down for the finishing touch as he stood. “ Yes. We go way back. Ha-ha…We used to…hunt a lot.”
What the hell was he talking about? This guy, obviously a psycho piano genius stated he knew me. I’ve never hunted before in my life! “ Look, your jokes are lame. I’m going.” I said as I turned away to leave. A slight, chilling breeze blew past me. I feel back just as instantly, hitting a solid wall that blocked my path. I winced and looked up to the towering figure of the man.
“ You didn’t sense my movements. How dull.” He said, a wide, toothy grin spreading across his face.
“ Ah-Ah!” I breathed in surprise. “ What the hell are you doing?! Let me pass! I told you this isn’t funny!”
“ Who said it was to be funny? Come, sit down. I have a lot to explain to you…” He moved away from the door and sat back down on the piano stool. I looked to the door, and thought to run, but his words were interesting in the least. What could this stranger have to explain to me? I stood, planning to find that out.
He continued to play the piano, not speaking. I decided to speak up. “You’re a student here, right?” Dumb question. You had to be apart of this school somehow to even be able to enter. He wasn’t in his uniform though. That was to always be worn on school grounds. It was a sort of signification you were a member here.
“ Ha! Me? A student?! Here? Anywhere?! I have no need to learn of such petty things as humans do. Nor do you. You’re quite smart, correct?” He said, stopping to speak and playing again once he was done.
Fear struck my heart for a faint moment. He said ‘as petty humans do’, which implied he wasn’t human. More jokes, I thought, and answered his question slowly and nervously. “ Yes. Top student here…I mean…Male wise. Females are quite smart their selves. My scores couldn’t nearly--”
“Worthless information! Stick to the subject! I asked of you, no one else.” he spoke excitedly, turning with a wild look in his eyes. I was taken aback by the sudden burst of energy, but calmed myself, wanting to know now why he said he was waiting for me.
“That’s because I wanted to reunite with my long lost brother.” He said as he turned away. I almost yelped as he instantly read my mind. Even more is what his reply was.
“What does that mean?!” I asked, more interested than ever in this strange man’s ramblings.
He stood and turned, revealing blood thirsty, glowing red iris’. I was frozen with fear as he grabbed my shoulders and shook me violently as he spoke.
“Unexpected huh?! My eyes?! They weren’t much different from yours at one point in our lives. I meant to say, I wanted to reunite with you!! Tomoko, brother! Does the name Moracu ring any bells?! We used to slay in the night, you and I! They call us blood demons! Then and now! Your memories have been erased, but I can help you remember! All it will take is a little bi--”
My senses were regained. I blinked and shove away from the strange man’s iron grasp. He did look like me, containing the same long black hair, the same girl drooling looks. But I didn’t remember him! And I was never a vampire!!!
“But you were. And you are. Don’t deny your past any longer. Come here, Tomoko.” he began to walk forward, slowly, calmly.
Anger and fear for my life over came me. “ Stay away! You crazy Bastard! I don’t know you, and this sick game your playing is too much!” I backed away with each step he took closer.
“ You still don’t believe me…Here.” He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a hand gun. I jumped back at the sight of it, thinking it was to take my life. But it wasn’t pointed at me. He was trying to hand it to me. His advance had stopped, and the gun lay hanging from one of his fingers lackadaisically. “ Shoot me. I’ll show you the truth. I don’t like to see my brother confused like this..”
“That’s enough!!” I yelled furiously. “ Stop calling me that! And put that away! I’m not going to shoot you. How stupid do you get?! I know it’s all apart of some stup--” He had the gun at the temple of his head, his finger squeezed the trigger, and before I could yell for him to stop, his brains lay scattered across the floor, ceiling and everywhere in between. I couldn’t hold it in…I screamed louder than ever before. What the hell was going on?!
