The Waiting Game

Yasuhiro Naito’s popular Manga/anime series Trigun (Property of Dark Horse and Yasuhiro Naito) is an action-packed, touching, and sometimes downright weird series involving a gunman named Vash the stampede who never shoots to kill. His dark past, adorable expressions, witty remarks, and broom bristle hair is enough to endear him to any anime or manga fan. But there is only one thing can possibly annoy the fans in this wonderful adventure…how long it takes to get the manga in ! One manga takes at least one year to make in Japan, then it has to be edited and finished which may take a few months, then translated into English which takes awhile, then printed, and then circulated…and then! And then! Oh…uh that’s it...J. Although I appreciate the time, effort, and quality I just wish that there was a quick and easy way to know exactly when it will come out! I go to the bookstore every other day and look at the “T” section of the Graphic novel section of the shelves like a child waking up one July morning and thinking “it’s Christmas” or something like that…only to discover that it’s only up to eleven. GAH! Well what else is there to say about Trigun? Trigun is conceptually funny…I mean think about it; a guy with good aim, two insurance girls trying to stop him from destroying towns (Millie and Meryl) people after him for bounties and his life, yet he never tries to kill them. In fact he will do everything in his power to protect others so in one shot it is humorous, exciting, and deep, with slight undertones of perversion. The series is divided into two large volumes called Trigun vol.1 and Trigun vol.2, and then the second half of the series is called Trigun Maximum which currently has eleven volumes all involving Vash, the two insurance girls, the Gung-ho-guns, a trigger happy priest, and Vash’s brother and rival Knives. While there are sad and serious moments Trigun is an excellent “feel-good-read” because it is so well balanced. The people in Trigun are believable (for the most part) and seem like they could really exist with flaws, strengths, and weird expressions.

The way Vash interacts with people and his environment makes it so that you just can’t help but cheer for him. All of this makes one thing forefront in the minds of its devoted fans: I GOTTA KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT! – Kelsey (Kichi) Strauss
