Manga meets Classic Horror
Review of "A Midnight Opera Vol 1"
Review Type: Manga & Anime
Timu76's Rating: 4 of 5

A Midnight Opera is a story set in modern day times with flashbacks that go back as far as the crusades. It will take you to beautiful places like Cologne’s Cathedral, Paris’ Notre Dame and Eiffel Tower. The good looking action scenes and amazing buildings make that this beautifully drawn series doesn’t look like your typical Manga. It has it’s own European style which really fits the story. Even characters like Frankenstein en Elisabeth Bathory seemed to have been created for this story. They just fit right in.

A Midnight Opera tells the story of Einblick DeLaLune, an Undead, looking for love and playing music to forget about the fight that’s been going own for centuries between The Order, led by LaCroix, and the Undead. It’s been relatively quiet for the past century but the Order is back and Einblicks brother Leroux is trying to get Einblick to lead the Undead once more. You’ll have to find the rest out for yourself, but if you know and like a bit of Europe’s Medieval times you are really going to love this.

Something that hit me half way through volume 1 is that every name seemed to have some kind of meaning. Einblick DeLaLune roughly translates as A look at the moon. Which refers to his werewolf nature and his eye. Other names like Leroux, Reinhardt and Clement Lacroix all seem to have there appropriate meanings in this story. But you can figure those out on your own. So get out those German, French and Latin study books. Even though the volumes have translations in the back a little knowledge of these languages will come in handy reading A Midnight Opera.

So…. If you like a bit of goth, your occasional black metal or your classic Frankenstein movie: Read A Midnight Opera! It won’t disappoint you.
