Borders Signing and Good Reviews

I thought I would post an update on my book for my leagues and hordes of fans (all one or two of them), but seriously, my book is doing well, and slowly but surely I'm getting the tittering kids and teens shyly asking me to sign their breas...their books.

Just last week I did a signing at Borders where I spoke on a panel to a sizeable audience. I had no idea I would be speaking in front of people that evening. My editor told me I would be signing books with a few other TOKYOPOP writers and artists. It was a moment of..."Oh poop" and then I quickly settled into the idea that now that I had the microphone THEY WOULD LISTEN!!!

Having kids, teens and young adults beaming and smiling and just so darn happy to meet you, talk to you for a minute and have you sign something for them is a pretty neat feeling. Back when I was a color artist, I remember signing some X-Men, Hulk and Spider-Man comics for fans but it's a much different feeling when you're meeting people about YOUR book. Something you birthed from whatever deep cavern of your brain that finally needed to be brought to light.

It's no longer you being contracted to work on someone else's property, this is your own sweat and tears to paper and then pushing, waiting until someone says, "Yes, we're going to pay you to do what you want." Kind of a neat feeling.

My book just came out in May so this is all so new and changing, evolving...and good. Don't get me wrong, I still love being paid to be an artist, writer or thinker on someone else's dream, but it's just that extra kinda special when it's something that came from you.

Enough of my babbling, if you'd like to check out one of my dazzling reviews:

Nice post, Tricia. Wish I could have made it to that Borders panel. I'd love to have witnessed what exactly you made them listen to. Looking forward to seeing you in San Diego! It should be a lot of fun!
