Pixilated Truth~ part 3

Cameron came down the stairs. "Um... mom?" she looked up from her tax papers. "Paying only half my taxes! I've caculated the percent that goes to what I support, so I'm only paying that much." she smiled triumphantly. "Thats..great mom. You do know thats going to get you arrested, right?" she shrugged. "Civil rights." she said. "Taxes. Big, fat, money hungry tax collectors. With police." he said back. "um...Can... you call that one dude? GSA group leader dude?" She smiled. "David. His name is David." She got up and went to the phone. "I think he said their meeting is tomorrow, wednsday, and its a five. They have food and drinks.. books about coming out, and dealing with it socialy, as well as others that go that way... and I think you get it. It goes until whenever, when the last person leaves." She refused to say 'homosexual' or 'gay' or anyname for it, so she said 'the other way'. Cameron liked that about her. She wasnt judgmental. Of course, he still was avoiding the 'birds and bees' conversation because he wasnt comfortable talking to a girl about it, but she was cool all other wise. She didnt use hair dye, but her hair was red, and she had freckles. People still called her a hippie-off-drugs. She was a little thin, but loved jean shorts and shirts that she made that supported her beliefs. She was a walking activist posterboard. Cameron had darker hair, and liked to wear mostly jeans, band t-shirts and a hoody, sometimes a hat. He liked the skater look. He had blue eyes like his mom, but no freckles. He went back up the stairs as he heard his mom talking on the phone. He thought about Harper. Black hair with blonde in it, green eyes and a tongue piercing. Shorter, but then most people were. His mom's family was tall; so was his mom. Almost six foot, and he was six foot three. He went into his room and turned on his computer, one of the first things he'd set up, along with their internet. His mom was as hopeless as no other at technology. He jumped as his mom came into the room. "All set. David's going to come pick you up at four-forty-five, because you nor I know where the place is." he nodded. "Okay." he said. She sat on his half-built bed. "Something bothering you?" she asked. "What?" she shrugged. "Usually you rant about everything with me; the genocide, Bush, child labor... stuff like that. You weren't earlier." He turned back to his loading screen. "Someone you like?" she asked, leaning forward. "What? No. I..." she laughed. "Harper?" he nodded slightly. "Well," she stood up and stretched her arms high into the air. "Maybe you can talk to David, or someone at the GSA about that. I wouldnt get it, is what youre thinking, right?" He shrugged. "Not really that but... There are somethings not every person wants to talk to their parent about." she smiled. "Like the birds and bees?" she said teasingly. "Please, dont start. It would be different for two guys, wouldnt it? So there's nothing to be told about." she smiled. "Like the use of a condom? I guess I dont need to go get one and put it on a bananna. Guys can't get--"

"Mom!" she smiled and laughed, leaving the room. He turned back to his computer.

The next day, Cameron walked up to Harper. "Hey." he said. Harper sat in his chair and turned on his computer, ignoring him. "Hello?" Cameron sat in the chair next to him. He saw a bruise just over the top of his hoody zipper. "Whats that from?" he asked, pointing to it. Harper looked down and quickly put his hand over his chest. "Nothing." he zipped his hoddy up the rest of the way so Cameron couldn't see it. "I... got the camera I wanted last night." he said. He looked at Cameron with sad eyes. "My dad bought it for me." He wanted Cameron to pick up on it. His dad told him not to tell. Everytime he did it, he bought Harper something he wanted to keep him quiet. He wanted Cameron to catch on to that. It wasn't his fault if he found out. "Why?" Harper hesitated, then pointed to the bruise. It took Cameron a second before he got it. "He...?" Harper nodded. "Oh." Cameron paused. "Shouldnt you tell someone? I mean sure if he buys you what you want you might not want to but..." he trailed off. Harper shrugged. "Don't know." Cameron stared at him. "What grade are you in?" he asked. "Sophomore." Cameron hesitated. "Do you want to come over after school?" Harper looked up from the floor. "Why?" Cameron shrugged. Damn. Why the hell am I so nervous? "...Just do you want to come over? To hang out or something. My computer needs some updates if you can figure them out." Harper lit up a little bit. "I'd have to stop by my place to get the software though." Cameron smiled. "We can stop by." Harper logged in on his computer. "But I'll have to leave around four. I have to go to... a meeting at five." Cameron thought for a second. "And is the group leader David?" Harper looked up at him, a little fearful. "..GSA.." he mumbled. "Well then David can just pick us up. He's already taking me because I dont know where it is." Harper looked at the backround of his computer. "...you're... gay?" He said so quietly Cameron could barely hear him, but he knew the mouth movements. "Yeah. You?" Harper logged into the server and opened iphoto. "Figuring things out. I think I am... but I've never really.. done anything or been with anything to make 100 percent sure." Cameron nodded. "How long have you been going?" he asked. "Few months. Do... your parents know?" Cameron logged into the computer next to him. "Yeah. My dad kicked me out, but my mom came with me." Harper stared at the keyboard. "How did you tell them?" Cameron laughed. "It wasnt as much telling as it was walking in on me and my ex." Harper blushed a little. "You two broke up after?" Cameron laughed again. "Ah... no. He was my ex then. still is. It was kind of... I-know-we're-not-dating-anymore-but-I-want-someone-to-screw sex." Harper cleared his throat; Cameron could tell he wasn't very comfortable talking about this. "Can we talk about it later? Not... here?" Cameron nodded. "Are you still coming over?" Harper looked at him, confused. "I was think maybe the whole... GSA and stuff would've changed your mind." He shook his head and opened a club spread. "But seriously. You've never been with anyone? Not even a girl before you started...'figuring things out'?" Harper shook his head. "No one." Cameron logged on and opened the server. "It wont let me open that spread." he complained. "Because if we both have it open, we would save and change different things." he pointed to Cameron's screen. "Open pages 100-101. pages 98-99 are done, and I have pages 102-103 open." Cameron double clicked on the pages, opening them in Indesign. "...How many people go to the GSA meetings? about." asked Cameron. "Well.. it's mostly girls. there are a few guys, but... they're already couples." Cameron looked at him. "Is it like a dating thing?" Harper shook his head. "No, just a hang out, be your self with out discrimination thing. People do use it as that kind of, because they know that they have the same prefrence as them, instead of taking a shot in the dark on if they're gay or not." Cameron nodded and moved some things around on the spread. "No, leave that there." Harper pointed to Cameron's screen. "Move the header back. It looks better that way. But change the font on it. I think I forgot to change it." Cameron did. "How do I choose font?" Harper put his hand ontop of Cameron's, that was on the mouse. He smirked; Harper quickly took his hand back. "No! thats not..." he trailed off, blushing. "I know, I know, I know. I was just messing with you." he took his hand off the mouse. Harper highlighted the letters, and went over to the media tab. "Here." he clicked on it, and from the font list, selected Chapparel Pro. "We're using this throughout the whole book. Okay? Don't change it or it won't match. But when you type, it's Times New Roman unless you change it." He said, going back to his own spread. "Okay..." Cameron sat there for a second. He... said he'd never been with anyone or done anything to make sure... and... we're both single... he smiled. When we get to my house I'll ask.
