This was another illustration that Federica finished for us when we were trying to get Kat & Mouse greenlit, and it remains one of my favorite Kat & Mouse illustrations to this day. This was drawn based on an early plotline that had our two heroines going on something of a treasure hunt after accidentally discovering a secret message hidden in an antique book. It was originally intended to be the plot of the first volume, but it was decided that it would work better as a later installment in the series. I really like the sense of adventure in this one because it's reminiscent of the old Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys mysteries that were an inspiration in creating Kat & Mouse. (It's also completely unlike anything we've seen in the series so far.) It's possible that this plotline will still be used in a future installment, but with stories already in place through Vol. 4, it will be up to the success of the book to determine whether this one sees the light of day.
