USJ officially opened its new Attack on Titan attraction today, January 23, 2015! The AoT attraction is part of Universal’s “Cool Japan” event, which also features Evangelion, Resident Evil, and Monster Hunter attractions. The “Cool Japan” event will run from today until May 10, 2015, so if you want to see these attractions in person, start planning your trip now!
Attack on Titan: The Real brings the world of Hajime Isayama’s anime and manga to life with a full-size, 15 meter (49 feet) tall Eren Titan statue locked in a heated battle with a 14 meter (46 feet) tall female Titan. You can finally experience in person the frightening size of the titans compared to the Survey Corps members.
The attraction also features a unique and slightly traumatic photo opportunity, where you can take the place of Eren’s mother in the notorious scene from the first episode:
(nom nom nom nom...)
While visiting the attraction, you can dine on “Suvery Corps Expeditionary Rations,” which consists of bacon, a potato, black tea-flavored bread, and soup. There is also a ration choice for regular soldiers, which only has the potato, bread, and soup. Then you can visit the gift shop for some awesome AoT swag, such as Survey Corps cloaks, 3D Maneuver Gear bracelets, cellar key pendants, and much more!
Thursday’s opening ceremony was a big media affair, and among the celebrities who attended was musician and well-known Evangelion fan HYDE. You can watch a video of the opening on English Rocket News 24’s article about the event.
