I have a lovely history of beating my liver up within an inch of its life. Over the years, I've abused alcohol, and over-the-counter/off-the-shelf painkillers. I've suffered from strange pains, I know now to have been caused by my liver, and my friends have remarked that at rock bottom, I looked like someone who was dying from liver failure. Yes, they did actually give me a direct comparison.
So when I read this story, I felt sick. A 19 year old went out drinking a lot, and in turn needed a liver transplant. She was so lucky to get one within the 12 hours she had been given to live. And what does she do? Two weeks later, she disrespects the deceased donor AND her own body AND everyone who helped/supported her, by going out drinking! TWO WEEKS after the operation!
Surely she should be treating this a second chance? Allow me to use a lyric here: "You can steal a soul for a second chance".
Sorry for this rant, but it's just something that has really irritated me. I don't understand how she can be so stupid! I will hit 18 in early February, so she's not much older than myself, and I'm a recovering alcoholic. So for a girl to actually get a new liver, and then carry on before...God, I can't put into words how distressing it is!
Thanks for your time.
Some stupid 19 year old had a liver transplant, and carries on drinking any way. Just my views on it. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=478126&in_page_id=1770
