FICTION SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Thank you for your interest in submitting your fiction ideas to TOKYOPOP. Please review the guidelines below before sending in samples of your work.

If you submit original properties, story ideas or characters, be sure to download and include a completed copy of our Submissions Release Agreement or we will not be able to consider your submission. Original submissions should be available for acquisition.

For all fiction submissions, we require that you send us the following information via mail or courier:

  • Two-paragraph story summary for a three volume series
  • One-page plot outline for Volume 1 of a series
  • Short description of each of the main characters
  • Five or more bullet points with marketing information (ie. target demographic, format, and competing books from other authors)
  • Your contact information
  • Brief biography
  • List of published work or other writing credentials

It's helpful if you include a writing sample, preferably an excerpt from a chapter based on your fiction proposal or from a previously-published story. Limit this sample to no more than twenty double-spaced 8 1/2" x 11" pages using 12 point Times New Roman. Please note that we will not return any submitted material.

Since TOKYOPOP's fiction incorporates a strong visual component, we encourage authors to collaborate with illustrators when developing an original property. If you team up with an artist and want to make their work part of your submission, please include their contact information, a brief biography, and a list of published artwork. Ask the artist to sign the Submissions Release Agreement too.

Mail your materials to:

FICTION SUBMISSIONS DEPT.
TOKYOPOP Inc.
5900 Wilshire Blvd. # 2000
Los Angeles, CA 90036

Because we get a ton of submissions, we do not guarantee a response. While we do review all submissions, please do not expect a reply from our editorial department and do not contact us to ask about your submission.

If we are interested in your work, we will be in touch. We do not post deal terms, page rates or schedules. These topics will be discussed only if we're interested in working with you.
