The sky..it's red, just like its always been. The boy held his arrow in his hand and looked out at the dying hills. According to legends, they used to be green, now there's just dirt and dead grass. The planet of Talmor was dying, and Luke Icihwa knew it. It had been dying for the past 200 years. Luke could never remember a time when there wasn't screaming in the night, when fires didn't rage in the forest, or when citizens weren't tortured and robbed of all they had. Earthlings have it easier, they always had. Ancient legends tell that when the universe was created, every planet made had what was called a "sister planet" made along with it. It was made of the same material, but it was set in another universe. Usually, only one planet knew the other existed, and one had better lifestyles than the other. Talmor had been affected by the later not by fate from creation, but by the Darkened. Beings that had come from a place no one knew. Some said the Darkened came from the jealousy Talmorian had for the people of Earth. Others said they came from a universe bent on destruction and ruling a race of people. No one knew who they were, but they did know their oppressor. Overlord Magashi. But he never let anyone call him by his first name. Just Overlord. Sucolei told me he was a fallen angel, but that can't be true...could it? Luke thought. Sucolei was Luke's advisor and adopted family since Luke's parents and baby sister were killed by the Darkened when Luke's father refused to serve the Overlord. Luke had managed to escape the slaughter, but he always thought he had been a coward that night.
"Disciple! Come here!"
It was Sucolei shouting for him. Disciple wasn't just a title for Luke, it was an honor. He was said to be part of a legend. A legend that could save Talmor. Luke ran down the hill to the small, wooden hut.
"What now? I was hunting! Don't tell me! You found her this time, right? The last 50 years haven't been wasted right? The last 100 times haven't taught you anything?" Luke's tone was sarcastic and rude. He was tired of this. Tired of searching for a legend that wouldn't come true. When Talmor was created, it was said that when darkness would befall the planet, a hero would be able to save them. But, the hero would not be from Talmor, but from Earth. That's all the legend said. No descriptions, nothing. They were looking for a needle in a haystack. But it got even worse. Rumors had begun to spread that the Darkened would be attacking Earth next. They would take over two planets, and rule with iron fists on both. I still don't get what I have to do with all of this! Luke thought. Supposedly, Luke was the Disciple, the tutor of the Guardian, as the hero was called. But he was only 18! What could he teach someone?
"Look at the map!" Sucolei said.
The round globe of Earth, the map where they could see the whole planet and if any paranormal events were occuring, looked the same.
"I don't see anything." Luke said, his hand running through his white hair.
"Look again"
And there, on a continent, a small dot blikned. That meant something was happening. From the legend, that meant the Guardian's powers were active and at use right at that moment.
"So? Places have blinked before! They just stopped blinking and we knew it was a false alarm."
But the light didn't stop. Then, it began to flash brightly. Not blinking, it just shone.
"Well, Disciple? Does that prove anything? This has never happened before." Sucolei said. "Grab the bag, I think we have found our guy."
Luke ran, grabbed the bag of items, and followed Sucolei out the door. As the tall, dark man used magic to create a portal to Earth, Luke thought to himself .
Huh, maybe this guy can help us. Maybe he will be strong, wise and caring, like the legend says..They stepped through the portal to their destiny. But little did they know destiny would play a gigantic trick on Luke, and turn his world upside down.
