The Dreaming Contest

Hey, Fans of The Dreaming!

CHECK THE OFFICIAL CONTEST PAGE BY  CLICKING HERE TO GO TO WWW.TOKYOPOP.COM/PROSE

Thanks for signing up for exclusive news about Queenie Chan’s thrilling series. We have exciting news for you … and you are the very first to hear this announcement: TOKYOPOP® is launching Rising Stars of Prose: The Dreaming competition—and we want you to enter!

We’re calling for submissions for the ultimate fiction competition, judged by TOKYOPOP—and Queenie Chan herself!

We’re also giving the top three awesome prizes and the opportunity to be published by TOKYOPOP!

We’re going to launch the competition soon, so be sure to check back with us at TOKYOPOP.com when we let you know the official rules are posted and entry forms are available. In the meantime, sharpen your pencils and keep in mind a few rules:

-Your fiction entry must depict the characters, concept, and the world of Queenie Chan’s The Dreaming.

-Your story should stay true to canon as set out in The Dreaming manga, without revising or contradicting the existing manga story and/or characterizations. What does “canon” mean? It’s all the information that can be gleaned from the original three volumes of The Dreaming manga; in other words, anything that the great Queenie Chan has established about her characters and world in print.

-Your submission must include a completed and signed entry form that we will make available to you in February.

-All entries should be not less than 20 or more than 40 letter-sized (8-1/2" x 11") pages of typed, double-spaced text using a 12-point type font such as Arial, Times, or Times New Roman – do not use A4 or legal-sized paper.

-All entries need to be postmarked on or before April 15, 2008.

We’ll follow up with more news soon, so stay tuned!

Good luck!

The official competition rules will be posted on 1st February, so I suggest we all wait for that before we jump to conclusions. Secondly, to clarify, you DO NOT NEED to make a story similar to "The Dreaming". You only need to make one that's set in the UNIVERSE of it, which does not contradict anything that happens in the book. You can use some of the characters in the book, or you can create your own. You don't even have to write a horror story - you just need one that references this story in some way, by perhaps using one of the existing characters and building a story around them, referring to the events of "The Dreaming" in your story, or by using the events of "The Dreaming" as a backstory for your own story. The easiest way to explain it is "fanfiction", except that this isn't fanfiction because the winner will get published and treated as a REAL writer.

I waited for something like this, but we have to make a story similar to the Dreaming? That's confusing, I started to write a story already, but I guess I could add dreams in there...

i heard it's only for US residents...

Will it be an international contest? The author is Australian after all, and I'd like to be able to enter a Tokyopop contest for a change.
