PAGE THIRTEEN
Panel One: Sama sneaking on tiptoe down carpeted hallway. He does NOT have his Teddy Bear with him.
Panel Two: Sama outside his parents' room. Similar set up as the hospital in that Sama's outside a door listening to the conversation. Let's try to make this somewhat different so we're not playing the same scene again. Perhaps we do a close-up of Sama's face and his reaction to what he's overhearing. As long as we can establish that he's outside the door. Or maybe this time the view is from inside the room and we can barely see Sama peeking in from the dark hallway.
1/MOM: ... oh God ... I don't understand. You said --
2/MOM: Okay, but ... month? There has to be something we can do before then...
3/MOM: I know you didn't say you're giving up, it's your tone of voice that's upsetting me, doctor.
Panel Three: Sama sneaks back into his room. This panel is the inverse of panel one. Because they are so similar, we should be able to see the change in Sama. The information he has overheard weighs very heavy on him. No longer is he tiptoeing.
Panel Four: Sama has climbed up on his bed. He's crying and hugging his stuffed bear with all his might. Jake, I think there's a risk of going over the top with this scene and making it look goofy instead of emotional. But I'd really like to see some heavy emotional pain here.
Yes, in panel two I give Jake about three different options of what to draw! Not usually a good thing in a comics script. But even early in this book, I really trusted Jake. I think he pulled it off.
