Kazu sat in the icy rain. His back against a stone grave marker, his face vacant and void of expression. He was humming that same peaceful melody that his mother used to sing to him before the fire. Dash sat on the grave stone, His legs hanging over the side. It had been two days since their confrontation with the devil Shadow and its summoner. Kazu hadn’t moved from that spot. “Are you going to mope all day?” Dash asked. Kazu didn’t reply merely sat in silence. A sinister grin crossed the red devils face as he stood on top of the grave stone. “I’m gonna go find Shadow. I’ll come back for you later, and we can return the favor. Instead of purgatory we’ll send him to hell.” He didn’t even wait for Kazu to respond he simply vanished into thin air. Kazu continued to sit humming that same tune in an endless cycle.
Dash finally found him. He managed to track Shadow and his summoner whose name was Akeno. The two of them were staying in an abandoned warehouse. It was exceptionally dark and very little light would enter. With the devils abilities to control shadows it was the perfect battle ground, but it was a double edged sword as far as Dash was concerned. He kept watching them; it seemed that Akeno and Shadow would leave for 3 hour intervals frequently. It made his plan even more possible. With that amount of time they could set up long before they returned. It was perfect. Dash slipped out one of the windows as he went to fetch Kazu. It was time for Akeno to visit his own purgatory.
Akeno entered the pitch black shelter of his warehouse. His fiend Shadow was perched on his shoulder. He was used to this darkness and had the layout of the warehouse memorized so he easily made his way to the center were his small military style cot was located. However it wasn’t there. He fumbled around for it, but still he couldn’t find it. Right as he turned to turn on the lights the whole warehouse became bright. He shielded his eyes from the light. His eyes finally adapted and he looked around. The warehouse had been filled with hundreds of spotlights they made a complete circle around the center of the warehouse and covered every angle. His nor Shadows body even casted a shadow. “A world without darkness.” Said Dash, he was sitting next to Kazu in front of one of the spotlights. “That is your purgatory.” Akeno smiled “so you think you can win just because we’re out of the dark part of the woods?” Dash bounced back with a smile of his own “hell yes that’s what I think.” Kazu and Akeno walked in circles around each other. Sizing one another up. Akeno rushed forward jabbing at Kazu’s face. The punch struck him in the eye. Akeno was kicked in the face and grabbed by his arm and flung into the air. He smashed hard into the concrete floor. Dash and shadow’s heads bashed into each other. Each matching the others speeds. Dash didn’t plan to kill Shadow only keep him occupied while Kazu killed Akeno. Akeno managed to get back on his feet, but before he could react Kazu’s elbow smashed into his temple. He staggered as Kazu leaped into the air at him, his knee smashing into his face shattering his nose and knocking several of his teeth from his jaw. Akeno fell back. His face was bleeding and his temple had been shattered from the impact. Kazu approached cautiously, he sat on top of his chest, and drew his arms back. Then fired it forward again and again, when he finally stopped Akeno’ skull had been completely smashed in and Shadow was fading away. Kazu gazed down at the deformed corpse, Dash landed on his shoulder. “I think we should go get something to eat and take a hot bath. Gotta get that blood of you.” He looked down at his blood soaked hands and smiled at the devil. “Ok.”
“Vant!” The boy had been searching for his Devil for almost an hour now. Kaori was a summoner from a small town near Kyoto. “Vant!” He called out again, but there was no answer. Vant was a very loyal devil. He wasn’t very powerful, but what he lacked in power he made up for in loyalty to his summoner. It was unlike him to leave without even saying a word but to be gone for so long was even more strange. Kaori was positive something had happened to him. However what could’ve happened. No one other than him could hear or see him. With the exclusion of animals, but it was unlikely that he was gobbled up by a cat. Kaori frowned when he remembered that his cat had once tried to eat Vant and almost succeeded. He smiled; it was funny watching that fat cat chase after the tiny devil. He continued to roam around the dark alleys searching. Something thumped down behind him, but before he could turn all the way around he was slammed against a brick wall and something had a tight grip on his throat. Kaori stared into the cold eyes of Dante. Several lighting fast jabs struck him in his stomach knocking the wind out of him and making him regurgitate his dinner. Dante grabbed a hand full of his hair and jerked his head down where his knee was waiting for him. Kaori stumbled forward as his vision faded. Dante grabbed him by his shoulder and forehead and twisted his head completely around snapping his neck.
Nightmare held the tiny devil in his hand as he faded away. He was smiling devilishly as he stared down at the city. He was on top of a sky scraper looking down at the alley where Kaori had just been killed. The smile got bigger as Dante appeared behind him. “Splendid work.” Nightmare said as he glanced over his shoulder.
