Alone

Chapter 4

By: Karla Ferrer (Please do not steal)

“Okay, I’ll be back late today” Denisse said taking her coat from the closet and opening the front door.

“Today too” said her father who was sitting watching a soccer game.

“Yeah, There’s another band coming to play tonight, we are expecting a full house, Don’t worry if it’s not full I’ll ask to leave early. The food is still warm, so tell Edith to warm up the garlic bread already. That way you guys eat while it’s still warm. Don’t let Jessie stay up too late…okay, well I’ll see you guys” Denisse said closing the door behind her.

“Bye” said her father still watching the game.

Denisse reached her job. An urban café meant to attract a lot of young people. The place was full and everyone inside was feeling the beat of the rock band that was playing, the hard sound of the guitar and drums., the soft and loud voice of the vocalist everyone was just moving to the beat.

“They’re great where you guys find them!” a guy asked Denisse raising his voice for her to hear him.

“The vocalist is the owner’s daughter” she yield back for the guy to hear…

The guys kept smiling and the rhythm of the music.

The band was coming to their last song and began to slow down the tune. The guitar and drums started low and then played at a medium tone. The vocalist’s song reminded Denisse of birds singing in the spring, even though the tune was of a punk style.

She went to a table and took the order of the guy.

“What would you have?” asked Denisse smiling.

“I’d like an espresso with a strawberry shaped rose.: he asked lifting his head to face her, since she not yet seen it.

“Okay that’ll be $5.50, I’ll be right back with your order” she looked at him, but instead of giving him a smile like she is suppose to do to all the costumers, she froze.

“Hi, there…Isse” he said with a smile.

Denisse’s eyes widen and she ran to the back of the counter. Her co-worker worried asked.

“what’s wrong?”

“I need to go...please tell the manager I had an emergency” Denisse said emotionless.

“Is everything alright” the co-worker asked staring at how Denisse was acting.

“Here take this to table 7 over there, I got to go… don’t worry about me okay” her last word she said with a smile on. A smile that seemed to confer her co-worker.

“hey!…your coat…” her co-worker said holding Denisse’s coat. “Hope you’re okay, It’s pouring out there.” The co-worker spoke to herself looking at the closed door Denisse walked out through.

Denisse’s co-worker grabbed the espresso and took it to table 7, but there was no one there.

“At least they paid,…usually people consume what they order and then leave without paying, Oh well” she put the money in her apron and drank the coffee.

Denisse was a block away when she realized she didn’t bring her coat with her.

“Crap!” she cursed.

“The good thing is that it’s only sprinkling” she continued.

She paused for a moment and remembered the man in the café with her eyes closed. Then suddenly she felt something over her shoulders. She opened her eyes and stud still.

“We don’t want you to catch a cold now do we.” The man from the café was placing his coat over her.

“Don’t tell me you forgot me?” the man asked giving her a smile.

“Derek” she thought an shook her head to his question.

She switched her expression from shocked to serious.

“How’d you know where I worked at?” she asked.

“Pure coincidence” he said with a smirk on his face. “What kind of welcoming is that, not even a kiss.” he leaned towards her.

Her instinct of fear made her react and slap him. Her face was shocked at what she had just done.

“That one works too” he mocked her.

“There are no coincidence’s with you, How’d you get to me” she demanded.

“It was pure luck, believe me or not…I just got back for London for a business meeting. I thought that since I’m here I’d get together with some old friends. The place where I’m meeting some of them is by that café. I heard the music an thought of taking a look inside. And there you were; at first I didn’t know if it was you, until I saw that fake smile of yours. Might I add that you’ve gotten even more attractive than before.” he said in a flirtatious tone.

“Your other self has not changer at all” she said trying to keep calm and firm.

“Now if you don’t mind I have to be somewhere” she took the coat off herself m handing it back, then began to walk away.

Derek’s face suddenly changed to an angry frustrated expression. He followed her, grabbed her arm and led her to a park. There they both stud under a tree where the park light hardly lit it.

“Derek let go of me, Let me go!” she was struggling to get off his grip.

Derek pined her onto the tree.

“Now why did you have to act like that, I was only trying to catch up with you and remember all the good times we had together.” he told her, his face only centimeters away from hers’.

“Once I discovered what was laying beneath that mask all those good memories you talk about became hell to me” she spat out at him, trying to remain cool.

“humph…not only have you lost weight, become more attractive, but you have also gained some confidence; but you can’t fool me Isse…” he sized her up, leaning his head to her right ear and hissing the nickname.

“You’re scare of me still, Do you know how much that’s a turn on to me” he mocked her with a grin on his face.

Denisse was discusted and her face showed it. She tried to push him off her; but Derek grabbed her wrist and held them up, to each side of her hear cuffing them with his hands to the tree; as if she was chained down. He ran his lips from her ear to her neck and began to kiss her.

“I’m not the only one who ears a mask. You and I are the same, so you shouldn’t be one to talk. You are the only woman that has gotten away from being in my bed sis you know that” He continued to kiss her, his legs tried to spread her legs open; Denisse continued to struggle, trying to get loose, find an opening to hit him and run.

Derek’s kisses ran to her cleavage when he paused, his eyes widen at the site of an almost heart shaped scar that laid there. Denisse used this opportunity to hit him in between his legs.

“Ugh!” Derek fell to his knees in pain, giving Denisse a chance to run away.

“We’re no the Same!” she screamed at him tears coming down her cheeks.

“Humph…Go on and run I’m only here on business but when I return it’ll be for a permanent stay” he struggled to speak. Denisse stopped running at what he was saying.

“No matter how fast you run or where you hide; I’ll catch up to you and find you…you will be mine Isse…” he said with a grin on his face, ignoring the pain. “Ugh!…”

“We are not the same and never will I let you catch me” she ran fast speaking to her self .

she ran fast speaking to her self .

The rain got stronger and it began to pour. Denisse sat on the front steps of the old gothic style library. She held her knees close to her to find confer. Her bent elbows rested on them as she tried to hide her crying face with her arms.

A young man in  a long black rain coat stud infront of her holding an umbrella over her. The girl (DENISSE) noticed no more water puring on her, she picked her head from under her  knees and noticed the young man, who spoke to her

"Are you alright?"   He asked holding the umbrella over her. He was docked his head to try and see her face. The girls face came out even more from where it was hidden. She noticed his snow white hair and pitch black eyes. She stud up quickly nodding to the young mans question. She than began to walk away, with her hands inside her jeans pockets. The man fallowed her holding the umbrella over her head.

"Look I've already said I'm fine...u can leave me alone know" she said in an annoying way; shoving of the umbrella that was over her head, and walked away.

"You don't look fine to me...u were crying" he keept fallowing her.

"I was not... the rain was all over my face that's all, now leave me alone" she demanded, picking up the her pace.

"Yes, you were i saw the tears when i put the umbrella over u" he said

"what do you care...Leave me alone...You rich Kid...go back to your momy and dady and tell them to buy you a new toy or something" She began to Jog away from him as she finished her sentence.
