Chapter 2: Within the darkness

The candle light flickers as the shadows of the objects appeared to be dancing across the walls of the room. The smell of beer and tobacco filled Opium’s nose. But she paid no attentions to her surroundings. She only cared about was the event that had just happened.

“What did he mean by ‘….it means more than you can image. Not just to me, but to us all.’?”

I tell you one thing, Opium….he still speaks in riddles. That same voice that spoke to her before, now points out the already obvious.

“Well thank you…for pointing out the bloody obvious” her voice quickly turns sour and more bitter then any snakes poison known to man, and to God at that matter.

“What am I to do? All I have is this lousy letter.”

She stares down at the letter in her hands. “Well, there’s no harm in open it. I mean-”

The door opens before Opium had the chance to finish what she was saying. She turns her head to face who had entered the room.

“Err…Opium.” “Who were you talking to?”

It was La’ska, another girl who worked with Opium in the brothel. She was a pretty girl, young and pale face framed by her long strait blond hair, of which many multi-colour glass and crystal beads hung of the ends. A sign that she was popular with the costumers and, of course, received more money so that she could decorate herself in such rich ways.

When Opium first came to the brothel, she thought that such things were pointless, why spend so much upon such useless things as crystal beads for your hair. It was only when she noticed that the costumers saw them as a kind of ranking system, to see who was the best at the job, did she understand their importance.

After a few years working at the “Rose Bed”, as it has began to be known as, Opium soon has become almost level to La’ska, and almost processes the same amount of beads as her. Although they are in more darker tones, unlike La’ska’s beads.
