“I know. I just thought I’d try one more time.”

Midnight looked up at Mirra’s expressionless face hoping to see something, but he knew ever since she lost her lover that her face would always be without expression until she found him. Then something stirred midnight from his trance, a smell? Or a sound?

“Mirra, do you sense that?”

Mirra sniffed the air for a second… she wasn’t alone. Mirra started to back away, when she heard something in the trees. Mirra knew that there was more than one, so she used her vamp vision to see that there were four of them and they were full breads, vampires.

“Mirra, run! NOW!”

Midnight yelled. Mirra turned around and tried to run out of the forest, but one of the vampires stopped her. He was a boy who looked to be 16, with blonde hair and a nobleman’s suit.

“Where do you think you’re going; human?”

Mirra looked at the boy now, with her fierce red eyes. The other three vampires had surrounded her and captured Midnight and gagged him. The other boys were about 18.

“So, you four boys used to taking humans in these woods easily. If you are, you might need some lavender for your wounds when I’m done with you.”

The boys looked at each other in confusion and laughed. One of the boys, who was a darker sort stepped up and said,

“What is a young thing like you gonna do to us hungry monsters?”

Mirra smirked a devilish smirk and said,

“Well, for one, I may look 17 but I’m actually about 4 thousand years older than you and if you really consider yourselves monsters, you’re gonna be in for it.”

A sudden gust of wind started to form around her and her cranberry red eyes turned to a blood shot red. Her fangs now showing and her thirst raging for blood. The two lighter looking boys lunged at her neck, but they were too slow and she used her earth power magic to stab their hearts with the roots of a tree nearby. The two darker boys took a few steps back as Mirra moved forward to suck the blood of the other two vampires, who were being suspended in the air by the roots. Midnight had removed his gag and was now telling the other two boys to,

“You boys had better run, when Mirra gets in a bloodthirsty mood, there’s no stopping her. Run you two, Now!”

“Midnight?”

The darkest boy said as he recognized the wise black cat. Midnight looked at him in shock, realizing who he was looking at.

“Raine? You’re alive?”

Mirra turned to see what was going on. When she saw Raine, her eyes went their normal color and her thirst disappeared. It was him, the one she had looked for all this time. Mirra tried to walk away, but when she did, the exhaustion from using her powers for the first time in a long time made her pass out.

“Mirra? Mirra, wake up.”

“Raine?”

Raine was standing beside Mirra’s bed when she woke. The other boy standing next to Raine with his arms folded and a very disappointed look on his face. Midnight sitting in his cat pose on the bed watching Mirra as she sat up.

“Are you feeling better Mirra?”

Raine asked, Mirra looked at him for a moment and looked away angry and without answering. Raine backed away and turned to his friend,

“Kyo, why don’t you go ahead outside? I’ll be out in a moment.”

Kyo unfolded his arms and headed towards the door. But before he walked out he said,

“Don’t be too long.”

Raine turned back to Mirra, who was still turned away from him and still quite angry. Midnight jumped from the bed and leaped out the open window that showed the moon halfway down. Now that the two were alone, Raine tried to explain to Mirra why he left so long ago.

“Mirra, I…”

“You what?”

“Mirra, I’m sorry I had to leave.”

“Without a word…”

Mirra turned to him now and got off the bed and walked towards him.

“You left in the middle of the night without even telling me why. You left me alone and as a complete target.”

Mirra’s eyes started to flood with tears, even though she was a vampire, she was still a half breed and her human half was showing. Raine tried to sympathize, he put his hand to her cheek, but she slapped his hand away,

“Mirra, stop this, please. I’m sorry, I wanted to stay with you, but they wouldn’t let me.”

“They? Raine, you promised that we wouldn’t become this. Raine, why couldn’t you just talk to me… just tell me, why?”

Her eyes and face now drenched with tears, but her expression still misunderstood. Raine didn’t really know how to explain. Mirra then starred him straight in the face and asked,

“Did you even love me?”

Raine looked at her for a moment. Suddenly he grabbed her arms and they both fell to the ground, their lips concealed in a passionate kiss. Mirra tried to fight him but he held her down. She finally gave in and shut her eyes. Raine removed his lips from Mirra’s, he gently wiped away the tears on her cheeks and said,

“I’ve always loved you Mirra, but I had to leave or they would’ve killed you. Even if I am a vampire, I wouldn’t have been able to live knowing that you were killed because of me. I love you too much to be responsible for your death.”

Raine got up and offered his to mirra for her to get up, she accepted and got up. Then Kyo opened the door,

“Hey man, we need to go. The sun is rising.”

“I’ll be out in a minute.”

Kyo closed the door and stood outside to wait for Raine. Raine hugged Mirra and whispered in her ear,

“I promise, I’ll be back tonight.”

And with that he left. Midnight came back in through the open window and said,

“Is everything better now?”

Mirra just simply smiled and sat on the bed; midnight took that as a yes and started to pull the dark sheet over the window, so the sun couldn’t reach. Mid night then jumped up on the bed and curled up next to mirra and they both slept while the day still shined.
