I see no reason to conform to what others call the norm

Doing things for money and popularity

It’s not really clear to me someone give me clarity

Selling your soul to the industry

Doesn’t make no sense to me

For instance rap use to be poetry

Now if you turn on your radio you’d think something horribly

Had gone wrong

Almost every song saying the same thing

Which is nothing

Cars, clothes, money, hoes

Don’t get me wrong I know some rapped about it before

And they’ll rap about it again

But more people are doing it now than they were then

Before on any album you had one club song

Now that’s all albums seem to have on

Them

The real tragedy is you can rap about bubblegum

Just have a catchy beat and I bet you’ll be making some

Money

And that’s all people seem to care about it’s crazy

I have a theory that rappers just got lazy

This is for the majority

But there is still the minority

Of rappers making good music

Some off the top of my head

Nas, Common, Talib kweli, Mos Def and Lupe Fiasco

This is just a list of people who wanna listen to real rap though

Let me finish the rest of my grievances it won’t take me long

I just wanna hear songs that aren’t pure stupidity

They don’t have to talk about politics or be smart

Just remember music is an art

And that’s where I’ll finish

And maybe next time start

“listen G, they told me I should come to the norm cousin but I flatly refused I ain’t conform nothing”

So I won’t conform to the norm I’ll keep writing up storms whille staying true to my own form
