Nobody likes to read a badly punctuated piece of writing. So concentrating on your punctuation is a good act to practice. For example, take a look at this paragraph: "John screamed as the parasitic vampire bat landed on his back and bit his neck puncturing it sharply and drawing blood sucking his precious mercury like a vicious murder machine." Readable, yes, but irritating. Proper use of commas would severely improve the paragraph and make it easier to read: "John screamed, as the parasitic vampire bat landed on his back and bit his neck, puncturing it sharply, and drawing blood, sucking his precious mercury like a vicious murder machine." And, of course, a comma is NOT the only form of punctuation. The most underused of all punctuation, I find, is the semicolon. In this paragraph, it can be used: "John screamed, as the parasitic vampire back landed on his back and bit his neck, puncturing it sharply, and drawing blood; sucking his precious mercury like a vicious murder machine." Now, look at the original, and look at the final. The punctuated version looks so much better - easier to read, and it looks more professional. Don't forget the magic of punctuation!
