Chapter 1
The clouds a smoky grey filled the melancholy sky. The clouds swirled and danced through the sky like a dancer, dancing a very sad song, to a tune which left the heart cold and deprived of all hope. The rain began to drizzle and the drops that fell through the sky were ice cold and could chill to the bone.
A figure walked under the dreary sky with a sense of lost, abandonment surrounding it. The figure soaked to the bone, just trudged on through the sheets of rain now poring down from the heaven above. Without a care in the world. It seemed the figure didn’t even take notice to the storm it was heading through. It just seemed unemotional, detached from the world.
A layer of fog settled over the town, and made it hard for drivers to see. The headlights on the cars penetrated through the fog, just far enough ahead of them so they can see the figure that stalked through the abandoned streets. There was no sun or moon giving off a tint of light that made the fog even denser.
Swoosh. A car went speeding past the figure. As it passed the figure a wave of ice cold water from the street flew up and drenched the figure. The road was like a Slip-N-Slide covered in water, while running off into the storm drains on either side of the street but to immediately be replaced by new sheets of water that poured down upon the city. It was a magnet for car accidents.
The gusts of wind that blew through the city sounded like an angel weeping for a lost loved one. The wind was a tune for the figure, which now lay on the bench at a park. It was all for the mysterious figure that slumped across the bench, in the rain. It was all for that girl.
The girl lay with her back on the bench so her face faced the clouded sky. She lay on her back not caring for the rain that pelted her face not caring for the fact it was freezing, not caring for the fact that she would get a cold. But indeed caring for the fact that she wished for death, to come and take her away. She wished for the father of Darkness, to take her tortured soul to a place far away where she could feel no more.
A sob escaped her mouth, then soon followed by a wail in, which expressed the misery and hurt which she felt in her. That wail alone could wake up the dead to pity her. She lay there sobbing with tears escaping the cage of her closed eyes. The tears streamed down the sides of her face endlessly, those two symptoms were the only sign of life in her that showed she was alive. She curled upped into a ball on the bench, hugging her knees to her chest for some comfort.
Eeeeeek. Came a blood-curdling scream from the woods behind her. She bolted upright from the ball she was huddled in and looked fervently around her. Her beauty was striking. She had almond shaped eyes, which were the lightest of brown, like melted honey. Her skin was brown as well, but a fair color brown. Her hair was plastered to her face from the rain but under the light from the lamp a little ways down the sidewalk it looked liked a halo was on top of her head.
Eeeeeek. She heard again. She bolted off the bench and ran to the woods to hear for any more screams. Then she smelt it. Blood. The irony smell reached her nose and it made her gag. The blood smell smelt like damp earth and iron which mad the girl vomit all over the bushes that made a barrier to the unknown of the woods which now lay in front of her.
The rain was relentless, it poured for what seemed like forever, while drenching everything that was in it path to the earths, ground.
Ugh. Came a hushed cry. There were following moans of pain, and occasional feeble calls for help. The unknown victim rustled about in the forest but after a while fell silent and motionless.
"Hello" the girl asked in a shaky voice. She now stood, wiping the vomit from her mouth with the back of her hand a wiped it on the back of her pants. She shakily pushed the shrubs that were blocking her entrance to the forest aside and strolled into the forest with a sense of danger looming all around her. As she entered the forest a chill ran down her spine. She gasped and covered her nose and mouth, due to the overwhelming smell of blood that filled the stuffy enclosed forest she was in.
"Hello? Are you all right? I heard you scream, do you need help?" She persisted. There was only silence that followed her question. "Fine then I guess that was just a hoax, and you don’t need help" She called out again, annoyed this time. She turned around and started to walk off in the way, which she came. She reached the edge of the forest and turned to glance behind her to just check, to be sure that she wasn’t missing anything.
Once she left the forest, and made her way back to the park she stopped and looked around. She shuddered and looked behind her. He felt she was being watched but she couldn’t see who it was, or what it was. She just ignored her feelings and turned to head out of the park. Being alone made her think about what happened to her, earlier and she began to cry. Her breaths came in big gulps and her chest hurt her. She leaned against a wall and tried to compose herself but she did not have any luck with that.
The girl walked home in absolute silence, reflecting what happened to her, and about the strange incident that happened in the park. Once she got to her house she reflexively reached for the spare key that was under rock on the window seal, and unlocked the door to let herself in. Once she was in she went straight to the bathroom and stripped all her clothes off and turned on the shower. She stepped into the hot water and yelped at how hot it felt on her skin, it prickled like a thousand little needles were prickling her skin all over. After about four seconds she dared to go under the hot water again. It was fine so she began to shower. She lathered her hair and washed her skin so hard it began to turn raw from all the scrubbing she was doing. When she was done with her shower, she threw on her robe that was hung on the back of the bathroom door and went to her room to change into shorts and a tank top.
Once she did all that she threw herself on her bed and buried her face into her pillow to cry some more. She cried and cried some more, but she eventually stopped because she was raw with pain, and had no more tears to cry. It was like she was drained of all tears, but even though she stopped tears still came.
Ring… Ring… Ring. Went her telephone. She lifted her head up from her pillow and stared across the room to where her phone was. Ring… Ring… Ring. It went on. She finally rolled off her bed and dragged herself to get the phone.
"Hello" she spoke into the phone. Her voice was glum, and showed she had been crying. She didn’t feel like talking to anyone, she only felt like sitting alone and thinking over what to do.
"Jade?" came two worried voices over the phone line. They had alarm in them, and they sounded sincerely worried.
"Jade, what happened?" asked one girl voice and the others asked.
"Jade? Honey are you all right? You know were here for you." Said the one girl.
"Yeah, you know you can tell us anything" chirped in the second girl again.
"Zizanie" she asked, "Kaitlyn? Is that you guys?" Jade asked with curiosity. She now perked up a little.
"Yeah it’s us!" Zizanies’ reply. "What happened to you Jade? You sound upset."
"It’s okay Jade were here for you, so tell us what happened we’ll help you through it" Kaitlyn said in a comforting voice.
Jade talked to Kaitlyn and Zizanie over the phone about how she was walking over to see her boyfriend and she found dead, lifeless, a cold corpse with not a trace of life left in him. She told them how she screamed bloody murder but no one heard her. She told them how she ran away and wandered aimlessly down the streets of their town. She told how when she got to the park she lay on the bench mortified at what happened earlier and heard screaming from the forest behind the park.
They listened silently to every thing she had to say and gasped at everything thing they found horrifying.
"Listen Jade were coming over right away we’ll be over there soon, just stay put and wait for us." Kaitlyn spoke in a rushed voice.
Click. She hung up the phone and placed it back on the receiver, sighed then went to her computer to check her e-mails. She had eighty new messages, most of them were from friends but she only checked what she thought was important.
The minutes ticked by and she sat in silence awaiting the arrival of her friends. It took Jades friends a total of ten minutes to get to her house and when they got there, they immediately went to hug her and comfort her. They both hugged her and a few tears slid down their cheeks. They wiped them away, and went to sit on the edge of Jades bed.
The girls talked into the late hours of the night, trying to soothe Jades agitated nerves. Zizanie and kaitlyn fell asleep earlier than Jade, so she was left to weep silently, not to wake her guests up.
Once Jade fell asleep, she was tossed into nightmares of the state she found her boyfriend in.
"Dead. Dead." She kept on muttering to herself in her sleep. How? He was full of life the past times she saw him. But none of that mattered now. What could she do? Nothing that’s exactly what she could do. She could morn over him, she could think of all the great things they did together, and she could think of all the things she wanted to do with him, but could not because he was … DEAD!
