I'm not that happy with TokyoPop. I think the Initial D DVD English ver suckx. It's a big fail. I don't like it one bit. They should have kept the Euro music and other Japanese songs. The speach that they use suck so bad trying to make it look cool. And they rock song is so bad. What the hell is that? I know many people that would love to see Initial D the way it was ment to be. I live in a city with many Asian people and they all tell me they watch the Japanese ver over the English. TokyoPop would have way more Fans if they made it good like the Japanese.

The comic and the anime are pretty close, the movie is right out of line (except the car stunts). The anime doubled the second hand price of AE86's and had enormous ratings considering its timeslot (and all that eurobeat too!) If you like this, you may like baribari densetsu, which is the motorbike equivalent ^^; Oh, and word of warning, DONT try this at home, unlike cartoon characters, _YOU_ are mortal.

A total must read for those remotely interested in the import racing scene! The characters are more than just mere lines and the racing commentary is just plain awesome.

The Ghost of Mount Akina Takumi Fujiwara spends a lot of time behind the wheel. His tofu delivery job sends him racing down treacherous roads of Mount Akina, and without even realizing it, Tak has mastered racing techniques that take most drivers a lifetime to learn. Of course, none of his friends realize this. They're all too busy watching the Akina Speed Stars, the local street racing team. When the legendary Red Suns show up to challenge the Speed Stars, it seems the local boys are doomed to lose the race. But hope arrives in the form of a mysterious Trueno Eight Six that has been seen racing through the mountain roads. The question is: who is the driver behind this phantom car?

Takumi Fujiwara
An 18-year-old with a passion for driving, Tak began his motoring career by delivering tofu every morning to a hotel. He was trained by his father.

Bunta Fujiwara
Owner of a tofu restaurant, Bunta is Tak's dad. He is the mysterious driver who holds the fastest downhill record in Akina.

Natalie Mogi
She is Tak's love interest and goes to the same school as Tak and Iggy.

Iggy Takeuchi
Iggy is Tak's best friend. He works with Tak at the gas station.

Shuichi Shigeno

Something magical happens when Shigeno-sensei touches pencil to paper and begins to render the street poetics of drifting, oversteering, powersliding, and studder cuts. His visual palette in Initial D is grace personified - characters, cars, and movement leap off the page with power ... and with an economy of stroke that is stunning.

A veteran manga-ka (manga artist), Shigeno-sensei is also known as the creator of an earlier series on motorbike racing called Bari Bari Densetsu.
