King of Hell Volume 7
Majeh's superhuman strength-suppressing symbol is accidentally broken in battle with one of the evil masters ... and now its time for Majeh to break open an extra-large can of whoopass!!! With the appearance of the evil master, the martial arts tournament has been terminated. But a new mystery has reared its ugly head when it is discovered that all of this year's contestants have suddenly disappeared. Who could be behind it?
Relatively speaking, I haven't been the editor of King of Hell for that long. It was assigned to me about a year ago, and the first volume I actually oversaw was Volume 13, a full baker's dozen into the series. However, my first exposure to Jae-Hwan Kim and In-Soo Ra's adrenaline-fueled adventure was a good four years ago when I was a freelancer here at TOKYOPOP. As a copy editor, I cut my teeth on the first few volumes of King of Hell. (I even have an associate editor credit in Volume 2.)
As I recall, I wasn't sure what to make of the series then. A combination of fast-paced action, frenetic martial arts and silly humor, it was like Blade of the Immortal meets The Evil Dead, and just when I thought I had the series pegged, it floored me with something entirely unexpected.
Fast forward almost half a decade and Majeh has once again crossed my path. When King of Hell was reassigned to me, I was a little apprehensive. My tastes have changed a bit from when I first started here, and I wasn't sure what I'd think of King of Hell now. But a quick pass through Volume 13 was all it took to put my mind at ease. In-Soo Ra's story and Jae-Hwan Kim's art are stronger than ever now, and King of Hell has managed to become one of the best action titles out there.
Also, Jae-Hwan Kim has become one of the most prolific artists on the TOKYOPOP roster. Not only has he been knocking it out of the park in all three volumes of Warcraft: The Sunwell Trilogy, but he has a brand new TOKYOPOP series coming your way called War Angels that looks absolutely stunning! (Look for a preview of it in Volume 16 of King of Hell.) And as if that's not plenty already, he'll also be providing the covers for our upcoming Legends of the Dark Crystal manga. You heard it here first, kiddos.
But King of Hell is where it all began, and it's not to be missed, particularly for you action junkies out there. Are you a fan of frenetic fighting and otherworldly horror? All I can say is welcome to Hell, friends. You're gonna love it here.

Member reviews: • The best manga i'v ever read.
by ZeroXZ on March 12, 2007 the point of the story is that the envoy majeh has been chosen, because of his unique talent in his former life, to capture some escaped fiends that escaped from the pits of hell. but they did't tell him that he was going to do it with some " limitations"

• Don't let the envoy fool you...
by nextworldenvoy on March 7, 2007 Behind the action, there's just as much comic relief.
