An old friend writes to Hajime and invites him to stop by for a friendly visit. It turns out that his old friend Reika is now a well-known TV idol and during the course of their visit, Hajime and Miyuki meet many new people including Reika's father, several reporters and a talent agent. But all is not as it seems as Reika's father is blackmailed to keep a deep, dark secret hidden or risk ruining his daughter's career.

Hajime Kindaichi
Although this 17-year-old high school junior has an IQ of 180, Hajime's slacker attitude has earned him a reputation as poor student and something of a troublemaker. But he's actually a brilliant amateur detective, who uses his uncanny powers of observation and deduction to solve even the most unusual of cases. Hajime is the grandson of Kousuke Kindaichi, a celebrated detective in his own right.

Miyuki Nanase
Also a 17-year-old high school junior. She has been friends with Hajime since childhood. Unlike Hajime, she is a popular, straight-A student. And, unbeknownst to her, she is also Hajime's love interest.

Isamu Kenmochi
A police inspector who is an occasional partner of Hajime.

Kengo Akechi
An extremely smart police superintendent who enjoys a competitive friendship with Kindaichi.
