The Gentleman Thief is a famous thief who likes to steal famous artwork--and mutilating the object featured in the artwork. However, it seems that this time he has gone too far, by killing the father of one of Kindaichi's friends. Can Kindaichi solve this mystery?

Hajime Kindaichi
Although this 17-year-old high school junior has an IQ of 180, Hajime's slacker attitude has earned him a reputation as poor student and something of a troublemaker. But he's actually a brilliant amateur detective, who uses his uncanny powers of observation and deduction to solve even the most unusual of cases. Hajime is the grandson of Kousuke Kindaichi, a celebrated detective in his own right.

Miyuki Nanase
Also a 17-year-old high school junior. She has been friends with Hajime since childhood. Unlike Hajime, she is a popular, straight-A student. And, unbeknownst to her, she is also Hajime's love interest.

Isamu Kenmochi
A police inspector who is an occasional partner of Hajime.

Kengo Akechi
An extremely smart police superintendent who enjoys a competitive friendship with Kindaichi.
